  • Sound from one speaker only

getting sound from right speaker only, running winXP on a dell pIII 500mhz dimension XPS, it is not the speaker, vol settings, jk connections, could be analog cable between cd and sound card, unlikely, or is there some option for stereo/mono in win xp somewhere, using new SB Audigy2 ZS sound card, but I believe I had this problem before this, baffled????

Do you have 2.1 Speakers? Go to the control panel, then the category "Sound and Audio Devices." At the bottom, under Speaker Settings, choose "Advanced". Adjust speaker setting accordingly.
Case: Thermaltake Xaser III // Power Supply: Thermaltake Butterfly 480w // Motherboard: Chaintech 9CJS Zenith // Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.4 C // Heatsink: Vantec Aeroflow // Video Card: Asus 9600 XT // Harddrive: Western Digital Raptor 36.7 GB // DVD Burner: Pioneer DVR-A06 // Soundcard: Audigy 2 // Speakers: Logitech Z-680's

Thanks for reply, yes 2.1 speaker setting is in place, if this were an old stereo system I would think it was a left channel blown fuse but of course that's not the case here. This is an older sys w/upgrades, will try to replace cable between cd and audio card if i can find one just to rule out, seem to be slowly acquiring parts to build new sys in any case.

Still no fix on this, speaker cord may have been shorted out once but this couldn't have effected mobo I wouldnt think? Sound card and speakers now new.

Check the balance on the Advanced Volume Control (double click the volume icon)

Checked as you said, this is one I had not checked before and was hoping but... both left and right were at 100%. Still no left speaker sound. Am thinking(bad idea-thinking) is this some kind of motherboard trouble? So far no forum, Dell, Microsoft, Soundblaster etc has any solution.

Found trouble-bad pci slot, placed sound card in spare pci slot...BINGO....both speakers working now. Must have blown pin connection in original sound card pci slot . Got idea from web site 5starsupport.com free.
