Right click My Computer and choose Properties.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Click on the Settings button under Startup and Recovery.
Under the System failure section, uncheck Automatically restart.
Your computer could possibly be getting a blue screen, and on default...Windows XP will just restart the computer instead of showing the actual blue screen.

Motherboard monitor can make crashes happen. Its done it to me 90% of the time with 3d marks 01&03 and red faction(sometimes). Usually just to desktop though. Do u get a bluescreen of death before the reboot? I tried reinstalling everything as well.
I tested this lots and since turning it off before running an affected program, all is well, not 1 crash since.
