    computer refuses to let me log on

    my sister's computer, which i put together out of old bits, worked fine for over a month, untill one day, it would get no further than the log on screen (XP home) rebooting in safe mode allowed me to log on, but everything i did (new users, changing settings etc) did nothing to change the situation. when you click the username, it gets to the desktop background and then logs straight back off.

    any help please?

    That sounds like a winbeta version of windows after it expires(30 days). Go into the bios and turn the clock back. This should allow you to get into windows to backup your stuff.
