  • bad mobo??

    GA-7VRXP mobo.
Have been having all kinds of crashes, some in outlook express, have some weird crashes, cannot relate to anything specific.
Just installed new 7200 rpm 80 Gbyte HD, fresh install of ME, still getting crashes and lockups. Have Kingston 256 Mb PC2700 ram.
Bought another 256, would not boot, returned the chip, next one they sent same results would not boot if the new chip was anywhere on the board.
Norton Diagnostics show memory failure with error code 238612480.
Just received new Kingston chip today, get same mem failure msg with it installed by itself in any slot, same with the old chip in any slot.

Do I need a new mobo, or what?

You may have a bad memory controller or something, thus bad mobo

Have ya tried increasin' the voltage to the memory by 0.1v (woops forgot that should be 5-10% I think with that board) to see if that helped? Also try runnin' Memtest86 as Norton doesn't fill me with confidence these days.
