    im worried about my PSU frying my motherboard.. does it matter wat PSU u use on a motherboard? eg if the motherboard has a -5v pin on the atx12v power connector and the PSU doesnt run at -5v will it fry the board?

    As long as the PSU being used matches the type of motherboard (ATX, AT, whatever), then you will be fine. The standards set up for this type of power are set so both the motherboard and the power supply manufacturer has to abide by them. The only way this might be a problem is if you're replacing the PSU in a pre-made machine like a Dell or IBM or something similar. While the standards are the same, some PC makers have created their own pinouts for the power supply, but in this case a standard PSU connector won't even fit into the coupler on the mainboard so there is little chance for damaging the mainboard anyway.
