Which 785 motherboard for AMD X4 955

Hi,

I am building a new pc and am looking for a 785G series motherboard.
I know the 790 is better but that's out of my budget.

I have narrowed it down to 3 motherboards:

-Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H
uATX
+ good onboard sound (Realtek ALC889)
- picky about memory
- no sideport

-Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H
+ ATX
+ 1 more pci slot vs uATX
Rest is as UD2H

-Asus M4A785TD-V EVO
+10 phase voltage regulator
+Lots of cooling fins
+Not so picky about memory
-No floppy controller(makes installing raid on XP very difficult)

Which one should I chose?
I have read a lot but I still can't decide.

Going to run with the onboard GPU at first, and switch to a better graphics card later.
Want to install either 1333Mhz cas7 or 1600Mhz cas8 memory.
(GV34GB1333C7DC and GV34GB1600C8DC)
Processor will be x4 955 or 965
Light overclock: intend to run 200Mhz lower than possible for durability,
no overclocking on the memory
WD 640GB 32MB harddrive
Dual boot with xp and 7

Hey there!

In my opinion, i believe you should get the Asus one, but the UD3H looks good aswell, so with any one you should be well(take in fact the floppy connector is not that big of a deal, there are always alternatives ;D)

And man, if youre going for a 955 or 965, dont underclock them, its pretty much useless, since theyre designed to run at theyr specific speeds, and youll only be losing performance for nothing basically

I'm sorry, you didn't understand, I want to overclock the cpu first to find what it is capable of, then lower it by around 200Mhz.
So if it is capable of 3.9Ghz, run it at 3.7

but the UD3H looks good aswell

That's my problem, they both look good, if you go for one you miss out on some features the other has and vice versa.

Thanks for your recomendation of the Asus, would you care to elaborate.

Hey there!

Well lets see, looking at specs i could say that the only thing id get the Gigabyte is for the Audio codec really, but thats just my preference, the integrated sound on the Asus is really good aswell(VIA VT1708S), and it should suit you well.

If you dont mind giving out some RAM for the IGP, take the gigabyte mobo, otherwise go for the Asus one, you cant go wrong with any of those, and youre really not losing any features since theyre both cramped with stuff xD.
