  • Sempron or P4?

    i have two p4 computers, one1.8 ghz and one 2 ghz, with quite crap graphicsby modern standards (radeon 9600 and fx5500 respectively) i would like to know what is better value- upgrading the socket 478 and agp or going for pci -e and sempron? bearing n mind i aready have mobos andhave a very limited budget?
    pleasehelp,sum1

    A Radeon 9600 isn't that bad, but anyway...

    I'd say that the P4s are so old and so slow that it's just not worth it to stick anything better than a 9600 in them. But why do you feel the need to go with a Sempron? Go for a socket 939 Athlon 64 system. It's not that much more expensive for the performance improvement.

      yeah.. its just that iv heard good things about the sempron 3300 - custom PC said its "fine for gaming" and only costs 80.
      surely its a bargain then?

        I suppose, but I wouldn't see much reason to go for one unless you're really strapped for cash. You can't get them Semprons in socket 939 (unless you're a major OEM, such as HP), and getting a socket 754 system just kills upgradability.
