  • 9500 PRO 9600XT or 5700Ultra or something else?

I am upgrading my mom's old system, but ran into a stumbling block when it came to selecting the VGA. I am wondering which is better the 9500 PRO, the 9600xt, or the 5700 Ultra? Maybe even something else, for about the same price range.

    Thank you.

I'm not sure about the 9600xt becuase I have never owned one yet but my 5700 Ultra does a better 3D mark score than my 9500 pro in the same system (not by a whole lot though). Infact the 5700 U does about exactly the same as my R 9800 np. Not sure which one has the best overclocking potential becuase I don't do that stuff yet. I'd place all 3 cards in the same class but as far as I'm concerned they all get the job done as long as the system you put them in is fast enough.

Does your mom really need a higher end card? You should save that for yourseld:flames: .

Yeah i heard that the benchmarks were higher in the 5700U, but in real life performance they say the 9500 PRO is still better, I guess. My mom likes to watch a lot of movies on her comp, that is why i was thinkin' of gettin her one of these cards. Currently she has got a geforce 4 mx 440. Will that suffice for watching moveis? As far as myself, I was going to buy a new VGA card and give her mine, but i guess that the 9500 PRO is pretty good.

The GF 4 MX 440 is fine for watching movies. If you were thinking about getting a new card, in Australia at the moment you can get 5900 LX/SE/XT (slightly slower than standard 5900's) for about $30 more ($24 US or about 10% of the total cost). This would be better than a 9500pro, 9600xt or 5700ultra. But I'm not sure about pricing in the US.

Not exactly the same....the 9800 np is 10-15% ahead.
