  • Need some advice on Athlon 64 754 upgrade

I'll be upgrading my mobo, cpu and ram and decided to get Athlon 64 3000+ in socket 754. The motherboard will be (unless sameone can give me a better option) ABIT KV8 Pro. The reason why I picked it, is that it seems to be the only mobo in Oz I could find with KT800 Pro and under A$ 200.

Anyway, my question is what's the best Ram for it? I'm looking at a 512 Mb.

Minimum PC3200 but quality CAS2 PC3500 if you plan to do some overclocking.

The nForce 3 250 chipset is better than the K8T800 Pro for the most part. Go with a Chaintech VNF3-250, MSI K8N-Neo Platinum, or EPoX EP-8KDA3+ as they will overclock better, perform better, and, in some cases, cost less than the ABIT KV8 Pro.

PC3200 RAM will be fine if you do some light overclocking or none at all, but go with quality PC3500 (and some third-party cooling) like Wayout said if you intend to overclock significantly.
