  • GDDR2 512mb X1650Pro vs GDDR3 256mb x1650Pro

    GDDR3 256mb x1650Pro = $109.99 after $15 MIR
    GDDR2 512mb X1650Pro = $139.99 (I bought the last one btw)

This is for my final upgrade for my AGP rig. I'm interested in the following:

    difference in gaming
    difference in OC'in
difference in Photoshop and / or DVD Shrink or DVD X Copy (Does video cards matter for these last two?)

No for all 3 The Extra 256 mb is not going to help the 1650 pro.. maybe 1-2 frames in games thats about it

there are no reasons to buy more than 256mb on a card, unless its a particularly fast card.

so i should go with the GDDR3 then? unless there is another card i should be looking at for AGP?

yup, GDDR3 is a lot faster than ddr2, but really, that card is NOT a good card. try to find an agp x1650xt (a cmpletely different chip, and a LOT faster) or a x1900 series.

I really hope I can tell the diff. between the x1650pro and my 9800pro., but what other AGP card can I get? I don't think x1650xt comes in AGP or the x1900 series. For another $100, I can get a 7800gs... but that's another $100 for a card that will be used on an AGP setup.

for about $50 more I can get
            GeForce 7600GT 256MB

but isn't this only slightly faster? we are going from $137 to $190 for a slightly faster card.

would I even be able to tell the diff?

              Don't get a 7600GT or 7800GS.

The difference between a 9800Pro and an X1650Pro is huge. It should be 40%-100% improvement as well as minor image quality improvements.

                DO get a 7600gt.
trust me, there is a huge difference in performance between it and the x1650pro. if in doubt, look for reviews and comparisons, where the x1650pro is directly compared to the 7600GT / GS

                aha, found a review. http://www.techspot.com/review/24-ra...0gs/page6.html

then bear in mind that its the GS that they were comparing with, and that a 7600GT is a lot faster than a GS?
                nobrainer, in my opinion

Unless you are restricted to a very tight budget that can not go beyond the $100-110 mark however, the wiser decision is to spend a little more money, up to ~$140, and grab one GeForce 7600GT card, which simply put gives you your money's worth for the extra bucks.
lol so wat's newegg return / exchange policy?

also, if u take a look at the review, the 7600gs beats the 7600gt at one particular part. Somebody wanna tell me how this is possible?

                    7600GT is faster than a 7600gs
Look around ebay if you can get a 7800 GS AGP card ;)

If you can find one, they are making X1300 XT's that are using the X1600 core and DDR3 ram. They are underclocked X1600XT's and would be the best bang for the buck. They are supposed to be selling for around $100. And the 7600GS is a particularly bad card. Avoid it at all costs. If you can find one cheap enough, a 6800GS is also a great card.

Like casecutter said the 6800gs are sweet cards I got one runnig right now and I max all my games with full 16x aniostropic filters and like 2x aa or 4x aa at 1280x1024 res but that also depends on the computer. Also the 6800gs beats the 7600gs and gt.

You also may whant to consider a X850XT PE which is faster then all of those cards in most cases. The only downside is its inability to run Pixel shader 3.0. To me, all that means is I cant run 3dmark 06. This may be a bigger deal to some people though. If your not considering this card, I would go with a X1650XT with DDR3.
