  • New PSU needed?

Im gonna buy new parts for my comp and id like to know if im gonna need a new PSU.

i got OEM 600W and the following i want to use with it:

    Asus Rampage formula
    Intel q6600 OCed to 3ghz
2x asus 4850 in crossfire (or non asus, but those gpus)
2 sticks or 2 gb ram each, 800mhz speed 4-4-4-12 timings (corsair XMS)
thermaltake case with 7 fans (80mm i think)
    1 sata HDD 500gb samsung HJ501 spinpoint
Soundcard (from the motherboard Supreme Fx II in PCI E 1)

In theory thats all. Before this computer i had same thing running with 2 6600GTs in SLI and gave me no problem, so i wonder if ill be lucky enought to keep my power supply for now (cash is a problem)

    Re: New PSU needed?

You need a new real brand name PSU. Stay away from no-names completely. You SHOULD be looking at some for one around 700W+ with atleast 40A+ on the 12V+ rails. I personally would not even turn on such a high end PC with that PSU you have. If cash is an issue then only buy a single video card for now and get a power supply.
    GIgabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
    AMD FX8120 @ 4GHz
    Patriot 1866MHz EL series 2X4GB DDR3
    Powercolour HD 6970 2GB w/XFX 8800GT 512MB Hybrid PhysX
Creative X-FI titanium HD w/Technics class A 300W amp and tower speakers
    PC P&C 500W PSU
    2TB Seagate
Coolermaster 690II w/Corsair H100 tucked under the hood

FULLY Agree!!!! A PSU if your PC's Lifeblood and if you Fry it, normally other parts of your system is taken along for the ride

Never skimp on a PSU, and try always to never use a "Come with my Case" or a no name PSU as said above, buy the best you can afford and do not settle for less.

If you cannot afford decent, then save up and wait on using the system

Sure, that might work for one of those cards..... but for how long? Who knows and do you really want to risk the rest of your hardware? I'd say you got lucky when the last one died that nothing else went along with it

hmm, your answer came a bit 2 late, i turned it on, and now nothing turns on (except fans) i hope i only fryied the PSU. If not, well everything is brand new so its on guarantee. I was searching for a decent and good PSU and found 1 id like your opinion about. its CORSAIR 650W eficiency 82-86% with 52A on the 12V connector. I send you the direct link so u can check as many of the specifications as there are (thou site is in spanish)

The Corsair will power that PC no problems.

no name PSU's tend to give out their peak loading not what they can run all the time. As a result no name PSU's tend to run for a while and then burn out, quiet often taking good equipment with it.

I would suggest the newest Zalman series with dual heat-pipe system. Excellent quality.
