Have no mouse in win98

I have a friend of mines HP and when the computer boot's it haas no mouse. But when I boot in safe mode i do have a mouse. I've changed the mouse settings, disabled everything in the startup, scanned for viruses, and I still cant get the mouse to come up. Any ideas???

Are you seeing any conflicting devices or flags in Device Manger?
Possibly your mouse driver has gone missing.
If so, this link should help you get the proper one installed.
