windows xp wont start up...

  • windows xp wont start up...

    i have windows xp pro sp1

    after i performed "clean disk" from system tools..my OS wont

    start up...during compression of old files it just hanged and so i

    just canceled and restarted....now my comp wont start..

    i get to the point where you get windows status bar rolling..and

    after that the computer just hangs and wont show me welcome

    screen...i can get into safe mode..can someone show me how

    to fix this? i didnt create restore point and now im screwed...

    please i am desperate for help...thanks

    Boot off ya XP CD and choose repair.

      somehow the bootup worked but i cannot make disk cleanup work now ... it just hangs on "compress old files"....willl booting off xp cd work? will it know what exactly to repair? i am scared it might erase my computer files...plase thanks

          wheni try to utilize repair it asks me to enter administrator password..what is this?

            The password is the one that ya set durin' the original XP install.

              but i didnt enter any admin password during install..now what? this is so inconvenient by ms...

                If you dont know the XP password, it means that either
                A. You got a brand name system.
                B. You forgot.

                  i agree with you kane2g
                  and MS has not done anything with your system bongoloid so it is not inconvenient by them.
                  anyways, did you try "last known good configuration"?
                  you said you can get into "safe mode" then did you try "system filechecker"?

                    yeah i tried everything...i got repair to work but the problem still

                    occurred...so i just did a fresh install of winxp pro again...and now

                    its just fine...took me 5 hours to put everything back like before..
