Just got this drive yesterday from a friend who broke it (dislocated the tray) a few months ago. It came in a 1 year old dell, and had never burnt a disc, only read . He tried to get it working again to no avail. And after finding that decent one of these start around $275cdn, he opted to replace it with a cheaper combo (less dvd recording)faster model for $100 and give the broken one to me for salvage.

Well I took it apart and fixed it after some time (miracle), it reads dvd's and burned a few cd's and installed a few games. It is dated jan 2002. And the revision is a00 with black front. Philips has no reference to it on their sites. The cd record speed is 12x max. And the dvd-record speed is unknown. Does anyone have this drive or know about any possable manuals, specs or firmware for it?
