  • Windows Loading Problem (Sound)

When my Windows (WinXPPro) loads up, the windows sound doesn't play for at least a minute after everything else is ready to go and if I try running an mp3 on winamp or sending an IM on AIM (it has a sound when you send an IM) my computer freezes up until the sound plays (which takes unusually long). I thought maybe it could've been the drivers for my soundcard (Creative SB Live 5.1) but I reinstalled it and nothing changed. Could anyone here possibly help me? If possible add me on AIM or MSN if you're willing to help, my AIM SN is ApathyEcstasy and my MSN Messenger is [email protected]

    Thanks

I think that some hardware details are needed (cpu, mobo, memory, video, sound, etc) and has it always been like this or did ya install something they may have caused it? :?:

It hasn't always been like this, I'm not sure if it was something I installed or not. I used a couple of tweaking guides from tweaktown but I don't think it could've been that.

CPU - AMD Athlon XP 1800
      Mobo - Asus A7V333
      Video - MSI G4 Ti4200
Sound - Creative SB Live 5.1

At first I thought maybe zonealarm or spyguard could've been causing this but I tried running without those programs loading on startup and I still have the same problem.

we have had a similar issue in forums sometime back.
did you check for sounds in your sound card control panel. i don't use SB so i can't be of much help but it should be some where in Start --> Programs.
i feel that you have switched native WinXP sounds off while the sound you hearing late is from your sound card control panel.

nope i don't think that's it, no sounds work at all until the windows sound plays, which it doesn't until minutes after everything else is done loading up

Have you checked the event error viewer[found in START,right-click MY COMPUTER,left-click MANAGE].Try using system restore.
You can also run system file check[START-RUN-and type"sfc /scannow",just make sure winxp cd is in drive. Also you can try undoing all your tweaks and any changes back to default settings.Btw,have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your soundcard drivers?
