    hey guys,

for a while now the Recycle Bin has come up with this message:

"The Recycle Bin for C:\ has been corrupted. Do you wish to empty it now?"

also in the Event viewer, the Application tab also says it is corrupted.

any ideas what this could be? I run Norton Anti-virus 2003 Pro, a full scan came up clean...defrag came up with no probs, ad-aware got rid of all the ads and stuff.

I have formatted/reinstalled Windows XP a few times...(formatted C:\ (system) with the inbuilt xp setup formatter...not the quick one)

    thanks guys :thumb:

        smells like norton to me.
that "Norton protected Recycle Bin" has always made me hate this program more.

Strange, it always worked like a charm on my machines, and I used it for a long time. Currently running Norton Internet Security 2003. To tell you the truth I think this great software gets flamed way to mutch. I just cannot see what's so wrong with it..

As with all software it needs configuration, but when done it rock hard IMO. :)

The__tweaker: you are absolutely right. may be norton is not causing a problem here but this tweaking to make norton "rock hard" is not easy for every user. IMO norton is too nosey. having an icon in explorer, renaming recycle bin, eating away resources (untweaked of course) are things that makes me go away from it. may be its just me

ive used Norton AV 2003 Pro for a very long time now (over a year ago)...and this corruption problem only started probably a few months ago...

ive tried disabling the "Norton Protection" on the Recycle bin...still doesnt fix it.

a full system scandisk also didnt come up with anything.

could it be my partition table or something got screwed over?

a bit of my search tells me that you might have been struck by a virus.
                anyways you can do this
                [code:1:8563fe1e6c]cd \RECYCLER
                attrib -R -A -S -H /S /D[/code:1:8563fe1e6c]
most prolly you will find corrupt or infected files in Recycle Bin which you can delete.

Yeah you are right there m8, it usually needs some tweaking. I for example never have anything what so ever except the bin on my desktop. To tell you the truth I havn't even got a single letter on the desktop.

Same with the icons in explorer which I also tweak away.. :)

Look here, my only icon but without any letters. And since I only use the antivirus and not the firewall (I'm protected behind another computer)
the resources used ain't high at all.
