Help on Disabling Other Services Plz!

Hello guys! Can you help me on how to disable other services in Win XP such as

Alerter
Automatic updates
Clipbook
Fast user switching compatibility
Human interface device access
etc... those i dont need.

but using the "Registry" instead of SERVICES.MSC?

I haven't seen a way of doing it in the registry. There is no reason to do it using the registry. Services.msc is the tool used to change services and it works just fine. If you want to find an alternative way, then please, let us know when you do :confused:

i have no idea how this alternate idea will help you but anyways here you go.
navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es
and edit the 'Start" REG_DWORD with value of your choice. valid values are
2 = Automatic
3 = Manual
4 = Disabled

Sorry but the only reason that I can see for goin' to this extreme is for benchmark nuts (benchmarks don't reflect real world useages though and some of those services are required for real world usages). :confused:

But I'm sure that ya'll find that out for ya self.

just about anyone can get into regedit. I can't even defrag my win2k box at work but I can edit and delete keys... oh the irony :rolleyes:

when you navigate to the key I mentioned, you will be able to see loads of subkeys. each of this subkey belongs to a particular service and the "Start" REG_DWORD I talked about will be in every folder (key). so you will have to edit the value of that REG_DWORD for every service in its corresponding folder.
