How come when I enable quick launch and "my desktop" and "my music" toolbars, every time I reboot they disappear? Ive tried unlocking the toolbar and putting them there and then locking it. Ive tried leaving it unlocked all together, locked always, nothing works. What gives? Also, how do you get Zone Alarm Pro 4.5 to remember programs and settings? After every reboot, web filtering gets turned back on, and programs that I give permission to access the net, after reboot, I have to give permission again. Whats up with this? thanks

you need to repair taskbar. this is the only way i can think of. if it works then you are in luck ;)
open regedit (Start --> Run --> regedit) and navigate to key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2
export this key for being on a safe side. now delete this key from regedit and then restart the system.
it should remember the taskbar settings now.
also see that you have set it to remember your settings at the time of logoff.Latest Microsoft Security Updates.

click on that folder in left hand pane. then go to file menu and export.
that will save this registry key for you, if something goes wrong.
delete the whole folder from left hand pane i.e. the whole key.Latest Microsoft Security Updates.

okay i just found this registry file in my search. download the file and then double click on the registry file. when it asks to merge in registry, click on "Yes".
if you don't know about that save settings thing, i talked about then you don't need to do anything.
do create a restore point before you merge the file in registry.

Thanks for the help asklepios, I appreciate the way you answer noob questions without being too harsh, but Im starting to think its a lost cause. I merged that file in the reg and no luck. Ill just keep putting the stuff in the toolbar manually, and maybe after my next clean install I will have better luck.
