  • Effects button in Display properties won't work

Ok, I have a really annoying problem, when I go to the Display properties and click on the Appearance tab, everything is fine. But when I click on the Effects button, nothing happens, the dialog box won't even come up. I'm not sure what could be causing the problem but if it helps I have Desktop X, DA, WindowBlinds installed.

    Thanx in advance

I am not sure if it is the cause of the the programs you mentioned but try disabling those then try to see if it works. And I may be mistaken wince I ahve not used Windows Blinds for a really long time doesn't it get rid of that anyway? So defitely disable those and see if that helps.

Re: Effects button in Display properties won't work

I've got the same problem. Right click on the desktop to bring up Properties, then |Appearance| Effects.......

Pressing the "Effects" button doesn't bring up anything.

I have TweakUI XP and DA installed. I uninstalled DA, nothing has changed.

You can find these "Effects" items being controlled by the registry:

        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects & at
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects

Duplicated the keys and values from a working XP machine does nothing to open that Effects button.

        This is really annoying.

        Help gurus !!

I have the same problem, too. I also previously had Desktop Architect installed; but I uninstalled it a long time ago. I think that maybe DA messed something up in the registry. Any ideas anyone?

Re: Effects button in Display properties won't work

                I founded a solution !
The problem comes from missing/invalid registry entries.
Tou can correct the problem by downloading the attached "smoothscroll.reg" file (inside zip file).
                I took this at
