  • VFAT Problem installing Windows 98SE after 2000

    Hi,
Bought a Gateway G6-350 PII at a garage sale yesterday.
    Told it worked fine.
Booted it up and it error said it was missing files. Did not get into windows.
I believe it had Windows 2000 on it.

Re-formatted the HD and installed Windows 98SE. Installation went through and then after restarting, got the error:

    VFAT Device Initialization Failed
A device or resource required by VFAT is not present or is unavailable.
    VFAT cannot continue loading.
    System Halted.

Anybody know what I can do?
Be gentle with me, I am female. lol

Just found out that Windows 98 has to be Fat32, not NTFS.
Anybody know how to switch it to Fat32?
Was told it is done while formatting, but person did not know what switches to use.

You will have to fdisk the hard drive with a 98 boot disk and then format it (be sure to delete non-logical partitions).
