  • Incompatability issue?

I was given an HP printer/scanner/copier/fax by a co-worker who couldn't get it to work for him. The installation cd says it is for Win95/98 and NT.
If I try and load the cd from my XP system, I get the following message:

16 bit Windows Subsystem (in the header box) and the following inside the box. I shortened the message, but the jest of it is " Autoexc.NT is not suitable for running MS-DOS, or Windows Applications".
Is this an XP compatabilty issue? I got the printer to work .using the installed driver, but it will only print in black and white. The color is non functional. I am wondering if an updated XP driver might be available?
Any thoughts? Thanks for the help..:)

Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for the device.

Thanks for the reply. I figured that would possibly get the printer working correctly, but I'm guessing the installation program still wont run. Does this sound right?

The driver will usually come as an .exe or .zip, extract to an empty folder. Go into device manager, check the properties of the HP device, then press update driver and browse to the directory you extracted the driver.
