windows vista 64-bit slow startup?

this is my first build

when i loaded operating system i did not partition off any space for os can i still do that?

would this be the reason why it is slow to boot?

turn pc on and it boots,then i get to where it wants my password i type it in and then it takes about 40 seconds to get windows up and running.

all i have in this build is the os and driver hardware right now.

should i fix this or is it normal

please give me some advice on what to do

new at this so please tell me very specifically so i understand.
