installing xp...need help!!!

I need to format a friends computer which has ME. Their computer has crashed and I need to install xp on it. I've never formatted an existing hard drive with an operating system on it before. I've done a brand new install with a new hard drive using just the XP cd, but how do I do I format their hard drive and install xp since they already have an operating system on it? do i need a boot disk or just the cd?

insert the XP cd and select the "boot off CD" option, then follow the prompts and it will format it for you.
