Windows Task Manager tells me that I have:
iexplore.exe at 219,500 k
iexplore.exe at 14,200 k
and
explore.exe at 7,800 k
running at the same time when logged on. (One of the iexplores even runs at logoff idle!) This could be some sort of a virus disguising itself as Internet Explorer but neither Verizon/McAffee or HijackThis can spot it given its benign name.
One of the iexplores resides in ServicePack\i386 subdirectory,
another resides in Windows\Prefetch directory,
and yet another is in WINDOWS\ie8,
plus there's one in quarantine.
To make the matter even stranger, I can find NO FILE called "explore.exe" at all!
Pretty strange stuff. Has anyone had this problem and solved it?
Thanks in advance.
(I've got an old XP OS with puny a 2.4 Ghz processor so unnecessary programs and spyware take a real hit.)
