  • Should I bother with SP1?

Hi... I've been reading the threads here and on other forums about XP sp1, and it seems a lot of people are having problems with it.

I have XP Pro, with all the necessary updates and patches including XPdite, and Messenger disabled. Not really interested in the new hiding access interface in Add/Remove that MS tossed in for the DOJ.

Basically, everything is cool . . . so should I bother with using the Keygen etc. that I got as a precaution, and install SP1? What are the advantages (I've read about increasing fps in games etc., but this may be crap). I can still access Win Update. Will this be stopped sometime soon?

Don't bother. If your computer runs fine and you can get it to do what you need it to do, then don't bother. Take it from me, after installing the illustrious SP1 my computer won't boot. Of course that makes me not happy. I have a lot of valuable data (like everyone else) that I don't want to lose.

You did make a backup of everything important before doing SP1 didn't you?

Some stuff yes, some no. I'm going to install XP on my other drive and get the computer booted up again, then copy off what I need from the main drive. Then, reverse the process to bring things back to where they were....I'm in for hours of 'fun'.

Hmmm... SP1 sounds like too much "fun" for me. I'll stick with the original - at least until there's a service pack for the service pack.

          Thanks for replying
