How to stop XP install

I'm installing XP Pro (upgrade) and I got to the "installing windows files" part when I get a manifest parse error... something to do with an illegal character.

But I can't seem to get the machine to stop trying to install XP so I can go into C:\ at a dos prompt to fix it (Looking around the net, the culprit appears to be an error in "control.man")

So... what do I do to get this thing to stop trying to install? Should I just boot it up with a windows 98 disk?

I fixed the problem by reburning the XP disk with a corrected "command.man" file, and the install completed.
