  • changing drive after new install

I just did a clean install of winxp. I have 2 hard drives installed and had moved everything to the 2nd drive (F) before I did the clean install. Although I ran fdisk, formatted, and partitioned the C: drive, the install renamed it to F: Now my backup is the primary drive or default C: ( default for most programs) and my install is on F:

I hope the above isn't too confusing :)

Here is my problem: even if I designate my location for program installs to F: I can't access them via shortcuts or some components can't be found.

How can I make my clean install, default to c: or change the drive labels?

go to computer management under admin tools in the control pannel (must me loged in under an admin account)

but it may not let you, windows dosn't like to change the drive letter of the drive/partition it's installed on

Followed your instructions. I can change the F: designator but not the C: Guess I'll just go ahead and re-install, minus HD #2 of course :)

        Thanks again
