  • Problem installing XP (ACPI compliance)

Got a 900 mhz celeron, 512 meg ram HP, and it's had XP on it before.

It now has ME on it, and we're attempting to do the XP upgrade.

It gets thru the first 3 steps, and just when it starts the 4th, I get the BS of Death, and it tells me my BIOS isn't fully ACPI compliant. It says I should go to hardware-update.com, which I haven't been able to figure out.

It also says that I can press F7 when prompted to "install storage drivers."

I have yet to see anything asking me to "install storage drivers."

When we loaded XP on here before, it loaded without any difficulty.

    Any suggestions would be helpful.

Make sure you have the most up-to-date BIOS.

NP, but I have no clue about how to do that.

      Info I have:

      PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0.A
      Intel Whitney 82810E rev 3
SMC LPC47M10x rev 0 found at port 2Eh

If there is a bios update it should be on HP's site. When XP was on it before, was it installed from a "restore disk"?

If you had XP on this system before without any problems and you have not done any hardware changes than you should try this M$ article and force XP to load ACPI.
you will also learn that how XP determines the ACPI compatibility. btw why do you want to do an upgrade and that too on Me? I would recommend that you do a clean install. in anycase XP is always a bit weary when it comes to upgrade installs.
bigjackusa's question is quite valid. is it the same CD of XP that was used to load the OS earlier. while comparing the ACPI system tables, things like OEM in BIOS can cause problems.
