  • Overclocking a q9550s on the P43DE3

Hello all! First post, so if you can, please be gentle...

I can't for the life of me figure out how to do even a slight overclock (20%) of a core 2 quad (q9550s 65w TDP) on an ASRock P43DE3 motherboard.

    Also know that I have 2x 4GB DDR3 1600 RAM by A-DATA with 9-9-9-24 timings requiring 1.65v

If I change the FSB manually to 400 while turning off speedstep and no other changes, the PC boots, but I can't go into or install windows 7 or Linux since I get a BSOD/panic. Manually changing the memory settings gets the PC to not even POST.

I've tried IOT, and it seems to ignore my 20% overclock (trying for 3.4GHz first), and the CPU stays at 2.83GHz (normal clock).

I want to squeeze out a bit more performance from the CPU so that it'll be good a while longer, so I'm at my wit's end as to what I'm doing wrong.

If pictures of the BIOS menu are needed, I'll be happy to provide them.

Something else: CPU EZ is grayed out. I can't use it at all.
