i7-2600k on asrock h67m-ge gets its but kicked by E5800 on msi g41m-p23! Help!

 can you tell me how to make this 2600k less lazy?
I have a E5800 that just kicked its ass in unzipping the entire windows 7 directory.
I made a zip of the entire windows 7 directory on one of my machines.
then had the 2600k and the E5800 (a $60 processor) unzip the files.
the E5800 cpu was running at 80 to 100 percent during the process and unzipped the directory in ten minutes, it was only 17 percent over clocked.

the i7-2600k was running at like 5 percent with 4 cores parked and took twenty minutes and was not over clocked.

I really appreciate your help on this issue.

I do understand that this is just one program using one thread, but I can't really think of a reason that the i7 should ever get its ass kicked by a 60 dollar processor

I am getting ready to run that same test on asrock 870 extreme3 running phenom ii x2 555 unlocked to 955 4 core and overclocked to 4000mhz.
I hope it does not loose to the e5800 also.

Depends whether the program supports multi cores,winrar does if you go in settings and click multithreading,you could test with the 2600k set to two cores and multithreading turned off and see how it compares with the dual core chip

interesting you are on to something.

i did disable multhreading and it cut the time from 20 minutes to less then 5.

so i disabled it in the bios and cut it down to 4 and a half
but now i have an 4 core processor.

also I removed one stick of ram from the e5800 and its time dropped from 10 to 9 minutes.

the x2 555 was not stable with my settings at 4200 so i got it stable at 3900 and it was also able to match the i7-2600k times of under 5 minutes for the winrar task.

I will be playing around with this more over the next few days to see if i can get things to work better on the i7.
