  • someones help me (Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Sata tedious problem )

    hi everyone
i have an asrock z68 extreme4 gen3 mainboard ,the problem is actually low perfomance in sata ports
    my system specifications is :
    asrock z68 extreme4 gen3
    i5 2500k d2 revision
    noctua d14 cooler
    corsair vengeance 2*4GB 1600 cl9 black
    msi gtx 560 ti hawk
patriot pyro 120gb ssd as a boot device +1 TB seagate for storage
    700 w coolermaster pro M
    windows 7 x64 ultimate sp1

when i want to boot into the windows it is take too long(for a ssd boot disk ) to see welcome screen , and my disk data transfer score is 5.9 that is low ,and the frustrating condition is when i want to use internet browser or see video that the system temporarily crashes
using these hdds on my x58 board (another asrock product) has no problem and score in windows performance tool is 7.5
i use the default setting in bios for storage configuration submenu(ide mode)
what should i do to overcome this problem?
    thanks alot

Re: someones help me (Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Sata tedious problem )

For best SSD performance use AHCI mode, and enable write back cache for the drive in device manager. Also, install the latest Intel RST drivers once you are in AHCI mode

To switch from IDE mode to AHCI mode after windows is installed you must make some registry edits first, this is for Vista or Win7 only

Enable switching between all IDE/AHCI/RAID modes by changing "Start" Values in these keys to 0 (Win 7 / Vista ONLY)
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci\Start
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Pciide\Start
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\iaStor[B][SIZE=3][COLOR="#0000FF"]V[/COLOR][/SIZE][/B]\Start
Once you make those changes, reboot and set the BIOS to AHCI.

Also, if you are not comfortable editing the registry there is a Microsoft fix that will do it for you here
Error message when you start a Windows 7 or Windows Vista-based computer after you change the SATA mode of the boot drive: "STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE"

Re: someones help me (Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Sata tedious problem )

For optimal performance, your SSD and HDD should have 4K aligned partitions.
Run AS_SSD and see if the upper right corner has a green colored offset number and OK for each partition.
You don't need to run the AS_SSD benchmark, just start the program.

Did you enable AHCI mode before installing windows?
If you installed win7 in IDE mode you'll need to make the following registry changes before you change the BIOS to AHCI Vista/Win7 ONLY
      Run Regedit.
Enable switching between all IDE/AHCI/RAID modes by changing "Start" Values in these keys to 0 (Win 7 / Vista ONLY)

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Msahci\Start
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Pciide\Start
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\iaStorV\Start

After you have made these registry changes, boot into the bios and make the required changes to your bios.
      In your motherboard user manual:

sorry for delay(the system could not boot)
sata3_0 or sata3_1 for patriot pyro
            sata2_2 for seagate
this problem(random hanging) appears more frequently when the system is on for some times

Re: someones help me (Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Sata tedious problem )

The original Patriot Pyro SSD uses less expensive, inferior asynchronous NAND memory, while the newer Pyro SE models use synchronous NAND memory. To see why this is important, check out the links in http://forums.tweaktown.com/storage-...rformance.html.

Your ssd is connected to the "best" sata port, but we don't know if you are running in AHCI mode. Run AS_SSD v1.6 and post a screen-shot similar to my AS_SSD picture. You can see from my post that I am running in AHCI mode where AS_SSD shows that I am using msahci.

Two hardware reviews for the SE model:
              Patriot Pyro SE 120GB & 240GB SSD Review - Introduction & Specifications
Patriot Pyro SE SATA III Solid State Drive Review - HotHardware

              HotHardware conclusion:
more expensive Toshiba synchronous NAND flash memory, is selling for about $235, or $1.95 per gigabyte. And the original Pyro with its asynchronous NANDThe newer Pyro SE offers better overall performance than the original
Does your system freeze, or do you get a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death)?
A BSOD code, such as 0x00000124 will help diagnose your problem.
It might be due to some bios settings or it might be due to heat problems.
You have an excellent cpu cooler, but your case cooling and fan setup might not be good enough.
What is the typical room temperature while your computer is running?
Do the system hangs typically occur while gaming?

Re: someones help me (Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Sata tedious problem )

thank you so much for your great accompaniment (it is makes me confident) with your posts
it seems my ssd has a problem because tried to install windows in seagate stx 720012 B and upto now(1 hour in windows surfing) i have not had any problem only a little noise from hdd(like tik 2sec tik 2sec tik)
temperature is not an issue and as low as 30-35 degree for m.b(ambient temp is 15-20 c')
when i modified registery and tried to boot up in ahci mode for the first time i saw the increase in speed and system booted up successfully but when i reset the system, in boot, Bsod screen appeared with this error code : 0*000000f4 and never booted up

i have another question why ide port does'nt exist in this board and floppy port exists ?

                thanks alot

Re: someones help me (Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Sata tedious problem )

                  You're welcome.
I'm not sure what you mean by "reset my system."
If you rebooted your system, there shouldn't be a problem.
If you cleared your CMOS, that might lead to a problem.

It's possible that there is a problem with your ssd.
You might try reinstalling win7 on your ssd where you perform the following steps.
                  1. perform a secure erase of your ssd
                  2. enable AHCI in your bios
                  3. temporarily disconnect your hard drive from the system
                  4. install win7
                  5. reconnect your hard drive after the win7 installation has completed

If there are still ssd problems, post detailed information about the problem.
You might need to contact Patriot tech support if we can't solve your problem.

A google search using: bsod f4 will provide useful links to help narrow down the problem.

No IDE support but floppy drives are supported
Motherboard manufacturers decide which features will be supported.
Support for IDE hard drives or optical drives doesn't add value with a modern system.
The same could be said for floppy drives, but there are a few cases where having a floppy drive can be helpful for bios flashing or saving bios settings without having to use USB drives.

Follow the directions at How to Secure Erase Your OCZ SSD Using a Bootable Linux CD | OCZ Technology to return your ssd to "like new" condition.
After you have created the boot disk, disconnect your hard drive and continue.
