  • AsRock 890GX Extreme3 & FX 8120 - strange pause on booting before BIOS appears on screen

    Hi.
Today i`m put new FX 8120 eight-core processor in my 890GX Extreme motherboard (last BIOS updated) with new 16Gb RAM (8XDIMM 4Gb Patriot PC10600 1333MHz) and have strange effect - i can`t say what is it - bug or feature :)

After pressing POWER button cooler and HDD starting, next i have pause about 20-30 secund with black screen on monitor, next BIOS texts (white on black) appears, next computer working fine (but my Win7 64bit freeze on STARTING WINDOWS screen (1 time it`s loading fine? next say "NEW HARDWARE INSTALLED" and "NEED REBOOT NOW" and also freeze after reboot on STARTING WINDOWS screen - may be i need re-install it?).

In this "black pause" red indicator on mb show some codes, after going into working state finish coe is "00" - all is fine.

Can you say me - this "black pause" is BUG or FEATURE or i need change something in BIOS setting?
    Thanks.

Without knowing more about your system (see my sig below) it's hard to help.

You are obviously having hardware issues(s).
Try removing unnecessary hardware and running with just CPU/cooler, one stick of RAM and onboard video.
If that works then shut down and start adding hardware and rebooting until you find the problem.

My guess is RAM - wrong settings with timings or voltage.
It's always difficult with all 4 DIMM slots populated.

Thks for answer. I try to make this step-by-step hardware installation and i`ll write about results.
About RAM - my last config with Phenom X4 955 & 4XDIMM 2 Gb work fine before upgrade.
Now RAM settings is Auto and DEFAULT. No overclocking and modifications.
Trying BIOS DEFAULTS and BIOS OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS give no any positive results.

Re: AsRock 890GX Extreme3 & FX 8120 - strange pause on booting before BIOS appears on screen

This task is finished. FX-8120 cpu and Patriot DIMMs returned to seller, now i have Phenom X6 3.1 GHz and Kingston HyperX 800 MHz DIMMS. All working fine. The trouble was in not full compatibility FX 8120 CPU with this motherboard (this is small chance of malfunction in this sample of FX 8120, but it`s not important because my target reфсрув :) i have nice working workstation. Pause on booting is gone, system not freeze. Thank you for answer.

FX-8120 is supported since BIOS 3.10:
          ASRock > Products > 890GX Extreme3 > CPU Support List
          What is your bios version?
