  • ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 not detecting video card

I've just finished assembling a new build here (details below), but after trying my video card in both PCIe2 and PCIe4, I cannot get this mobo to detect my video card. I did get it to boot and install Windows via onboard video, but device manager doesn't appear to be recognizing my video card at all. I've done a bit of searching on the forums here and elsewhere, and it sounds like there were a few others having this problem. Unfortunately, I don't have another machine to try this video card in. I was planning on RMAing it but I guess I wanted to double check I'm not doing anything dumb first.

    Steps I've tried:
    • Updating bios to current version
    • Ensuring bios should default to PCIexpress
    • Resetting CMOS (both using button on back, and mobo jumper)
    • Trying card on both PCIe ports

    Build:
    • ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
    • XFX Radeon 6970 2GB
    • OCZ 700W PSU
    • Intel Core i7 2600K
    • 8GB RAM GSkill RipJaws
    • 120GB SanDisk SSD

If anyone has any suggestions, I would definitely welcome them. Thanks!

Re: ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 not detecting video card

I bought my new computer from Cyberpowerpc.com and I have the same issue.

    ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3
    HIS radeon 6870
    Thermaltake 850W PSU
    Intel Core i5-2600K
    16 GB RAM kingston
    120 GB OCZ SSD

My video was detected for 1.5 days, then not anymore. Then later it was detected again for 3-4 days then notanymore again.
I uninstalled and installed again Windows 7 or Windows XP about 5-6 times.
I updated all the drivers and the BIOS from ASRock.com, and nothing.
I bought a new video card Sapphire Radeon HD6790 to put it in the second PCIe port, nothing.
Fan from both video cards are spinning.

So I have 2 video cards that are not detected ! Not really fun to play !
Is there a trouble with the PCIe ports?
