1 week old Motherboard (Z68 e4g3) and ethernet problems.

Board worked great for couple weeks.

Then ethernet stopped working. I noticed that the lights on both ends were flashing rapidly without end and the OS gets a self assigned IP 169.254.x.x

After reinstalling win7 and driver, updating the BIOS to 1.20 nothing has changed...

Anyone have any posible suggestions?

With your system turned off, try resetting your modem/router.
Can you test with a different network cable?
Without a working network connection, your assigned IP address will be 169.x.x.x

Reset the router (all other devices both wired and wireless are working fine). Tried another ethernet cable, still failed. Used the same ethernet cable with my laptop and it worked fine, picking up an ip address for that connection.

I am sure it is getting a connection to the port on the motherboard to the router because lights on both sides are flickering like crazy.

You might need to unplug your computer from the wall outlet and then perform a 1 - 5 minute CMOS clear with a jumper block.
Have you downloaded and installed the latest network drivers?
Does windows Device Manager show and errors for the network adapter?
The ASRock installation network drivers are probably not the most recent.

This is a long shot; try booting into Safe Mode with Networking Support and see if anything changes.

Can you bring me up to speed on what the 1-5 means? Are there five jumpers I have to set? I saw the quick button on the back, would that work?

I think Jim ment 1 - 5 min clear. Jumper is suggested as you dont have to sit there trying to hold the button for 5 min.

Sweet... I had my doubts that clearing the CMOS would solve it... But looks like it did!

Did you use the Clear CMOS reset button? Jumper block? and for how long?

Hopefully this won't be a regular problem/solution.
