  • ASRock 970 Extreme4 / Memory: error code 0x4A

    Hi there,

I just tested my brand new config before installing in the case:
    ASRock 970 Extreme4
    AMD FX-8120
    2x4GB Corsair XMS3 (ref: CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)
Power supply Super Flower SF-450P14XE (450 Watts)

The motherboard has the CPU and cooler installed.
I connected only the 2 power connectors 24 pins and 8 pins and plugged 2 RAM in white slots.

After power-on I have the Dr Debug error code 0x4A and some time 0x50.
I tried with 1 RAM stick only.
I changed the RAM stick position A2, B2, A1, B1 and tried the other stick: Same error.

    What could produce this error?

BTW, what is the Dr Debug code when everything is working perfectly?

    Many thanks

I'd add, when on, the cooler fan is spinning slowly.

    The memory has a
    Tested Voltage 1.65 V
    SPD Voltage 1.5 V

    Specification here
Should I change for a Vengeance?

What does the user manual read for those errors ?.
      Here it what it means
0x50 = Memory initialization error. Invalid memory type or incompatible memory
There is no code 0x4A in the manual as far as I could see

What I understand in the manual is between 0x3F and 0x4E = OEM post memory initialization codes
I'd guess this is something linked to memory but I don't know exactly what.

Is there a ASRock specialist in the forum?

There is a memory incompatibility as seen in the error codes. Try compatible memory as shown QVL

However, Corsair web site says the memory (ref: CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) is compatible.
Have a look in the ASRock compatibility list here
and in the left enter: 970 extreme4
            then select: 8GB Kit (2 x 4GB)
            This reference is there.

I agree with you the first thing to try is to test another RAM.

              Does this show as compatible

No, but motherboard manufacturers can't test every single references of memory on the market.

More over I tried to find the Corsair references in the link you gave, in the Corsair search, ie:
                Search results for: 'CM3X2G1600C9DHXNV'
                No result.
Maybe they are not produced any more, at least with this reference?

Thank you any way, I am waiting for an answer from my seller.
I'll let you know the result.
