  • Cannot activate X fast ram

    Hi

I tried searching for a solution but i failed, so i decided to post thread hoping somebody could help me.
just recently i installed the Asrocks Extreme Tuning Utility program for the purpose of using the X Fast Ram
because for some reason Window 7 refused to let me use the asrock 64bit raid 0 driver for my installation, But surprisingly it accepted the 32bit version of the driver and continued away.
so basically im stuck with 32bits OS >.<

    [Problem]
    Cannot Activate X fast ram

if Anybody could help me that would be wonderful thanks

Re: Cannot activate X fast ram

That's to bad about the RSTe F6 RAID driver, you could try the one direct from Intel if you want to install your OS again:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...&DownloadType=

The 64 bit F6 driver is labeled in the driver name. You can also use the full RSTe driver (.exe file) on that page after you install Windows.

XFast RAM is configured in AXTU, with the XFast RAM option. You choose the amount of memory to use, and what you want to put in it, given the options it provides. You must give it a drive letter, just like a regular HDD or SSD, use x, y, or z to make it stand out and not to be something already in use.

Once it is set up, you must make sure the "Auto run..." box is checked at the bottom of the screen. Then click the START button on the lower right, to create the RAM disk. Some messages are displayed on the screen, and when it is done, a Windows dialog box should appear for the new 'X' drive. You must reboot the PC to complete this step, as a message should appear telling you to do so.

When that has completed, you can double check that the RAM disk was created, looking at Start, Computer. You should then see that some of the capacity of that "drive" is in use. You can also check the "Backup XFast RAM" box, to reload its contents each time the PC boots. That is not really needed for temporary files, but for the Cache files it is convenient. I seemed to have some problems with Firefox when I used the RAM disk for its cache, it would crash a lot, so I don't use it.

Once the RAM disk is created, if you change anything on its configuration screen, click the APPLY button. You'll also see that once the RAM disk is created, the START button turns into a STOP button, which removes the RAM disk from your PC.

Later, you can use it just as you would a normal drive, with the exception of it will normally not store data permanently if the PC is shutdown. I cannot tell you that the Backup option for the RAM disk works perfectly every time, and whatever is backed up is written to your OS drive, so keep that in mind if that matters to you.

Of course the speed of a RAM disk is unmatched by any regular storage device:

Re: Cannot activate X fast ram

Good luck with that. On my ASRock board, they had the 32 bit and 64 bit F6 drivers in one download file, and in separate folders. The 64 bit driver folder is named AMD64, which means the 64 bit version (trademark of AMD) but I've seen other users having problems with Windows finding it. Just copy the six files extracted from that Intel .zip file to the root directory of a USB drive with nothing else on it. That always worked for me.

64 bit OS before RAM disk, good choice of priorities, although playing with the RAM disk is easier, and fun too...

Re: Cannot activate X fast ram

Oooh-Kay, RSTe can be a pain, but I know others have used it so it's gotta work. We are talking X79 chipset, right?

Alright, the Intel version before that one:

              http://downloadcenter.intel.com/conf...ProductID=3336

Something tells me you didn't try the Intel drivers, but I could be wrong. Anyway, if you try this one, and unzip/extract the files, you'll see two folders, AHCI and SCU. If you are using AHCI mode use the files in that folder. If you want RAID, use the files in the SCU folder.

Copy all the files in either folder to the USB drive, and you're sick of reading this, but I dunno what else to tell ya...

What specific problems do you have when trying to install the win7 ultimate 64-bit version?
Have you tried installing the 64-bit version with less than 16GB of installed memory?

Please post the full sata port name that each drive is connected to.
Do you want to use a separate raid array for each of the matching ssd pairs?
I've never used a raid setup, maybe you can try to install the win7 64-bit version to a single non-raid drive and later convert to a raid setup.

The SSD drives are connected to Sata2_0 and Sata2_1. i may try installing it on a single ssd first, but im not sure how to convert it to raid later on.

I assume that you have your operating system installed on your solid state drives.
I managed to confuse myself looking at your PC Specs; I thought that you were using two different pairs of ssds.
