H61M/U3S3 plus i3-3245

Hi there,
has anyone installed an i3-3245 on my MB? Bios is 2.40. I fear I've bought a processor which isn't supported (compatibility-list)

Unless you have a bios chip burner, the cheapest way out is to buy an updated bios chip from Ebay. :-)

Wow, I'm honored by that statement, thank you.

Have you tried that i3-3245 CPU yet? What were you using before the i3-3245?

A few of the i3 Ivy Bridge processors are all quite new models, the i3-3245 and i3-3250 released in Q2 of 2013. Curiously, the i3-3250 which was launched the same time as the i3-3245, is listed in the compatibility list, but the i3-3245 is not, as you know.

The main difference between the '3250 and the '3245, is the '3245 has the 4000 graphics package, while the '3250 has the 2500. The CPU clock speed is different by 100MHz. The i3-3225 which is in the compatibility list, has the 4000 graphics, and runs 100MHz below the '3245.

Of all the i3 Ivy Bridge processors, IMO the i3-3245 is the best choice overall. It has the 4000 graphics, the best available with IB, and is only 100MHz slower than the fastest i3 IB.

The i3-3245 is the only i3 Ivy Bridge CPU that is not in the list. I cannot see any reason given the specs and comparing it to the other models, why it would not work. Nothing about it stands out as unique compared to the others. Perhaps ASRock simply did not have one to try.

If you tried it in your board, it would not be damaged, or damage the board, if it did not work. If the BIOS must look up the processor in an internal data table, and cannot find it, then POST would fail, but only due to the missing data.

Hopefully ASRock's Emily can comment on this, or have a BIOS update done for this processor.

Is it possible that DIF went from the oldest bios version straight to the newest one when he bought the 3245.
You have helped people out who were trying to go from sandy to ivy.

@ parsec: I'm using an i3-2125 right now. I need the slightly stronger igpu for "hometheater"-purposes; in conjunction with madVR.
I will try to change cpus with existing bios. will wait for colder days - today we have 34 degrees.

@malmal: I switched from beta L1.70C to 2.40.

Hi everyone,

I'm still in contact with Asrock Support via Asrock NL. They state Asrock TW is having problems to get an i3-3245 from Intel.

So I'm stuck with my "old" i3-2125 - I fear I don't manage to remove new Intel-cooler if processor isn't recognized.

Has anyone a clue?
