ONly getting left side out of onboard audio on 990fx extreme 9

I started with windows 8 thinking i would try it. after installation i noticed I couldnt get sound on the right side, using onboard audio. I downloaded the latest ones from realtek but had no change. I just reinstalled windows 7 thinking it might help but I didnt. any ideas?

The first thing to check is the cable and its connector, on both ends. Try wiggling it and turning it when in the jack on the board.
