  • Asrock Conroe1666-D667 **R1.0** compatibility issue with 4GB(2x2GB) trascend memory

    Hello Folks,
I have an compatibility issue with 4GB(2x2GB) trascend memory.

My motherboard is an Asrock Conroe1666-D667 **R1.0** and 4GB (2x2GB trascend memory modules).

The problem is that the bios and also a linux x64 only recognizes 2.8GB of ram memory.

How can I do to have 4GB on my linux?

Upgrade the bios can fix it?

I doesn't try to upgrade the bios:
    ASRock > ConRoe1333-D667 R1.0

because when I go to the BIOS download page:
    ASRock > ConRoe1333-D667 R1.0

    and try to download:

the zip name is for **R2.0** and i don't know if I can upgrade my R1.0 motherboard with the R2.0 zip

Also I tried to configure manually the BIOS to set the DRAM to apropiate values, but that didn't work. Also a very strange thing happen. Now Speccy tells me the (CL, tRCD, tRP, tRAS, tRC) values are (3, 3, 3, 9, 12) instead of (4, 4, 4, 12, 16)

    More details.
    Memory - From Speccy:
    Type DDR2
    Size 4096 MBytes
    Channels # Dual
    DRAM Frequency 199,5 MHz
    CAS# Latency (CL) 3 clocks
    RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD) 3 clocks
    RAS# Precharge (tRP) 3 clocks
    Cycle Time (tRAS) 9 clocks
Bank Cycle Time (tRC) 12 clocks

    Thanks in advance.

Is there a reason I'm not aware of that would preclude you from downloading and or using the latest BIOS revision, 1.90?

To your remarks of the (R2.0) showing the files names of R1.0 board downloads I have sent an email to ASRock for investigation.

It does seem odd yet I am unfamiliar with if they are there correctly or not. I have asked that Emily reply here so that you may have a direct answer from ASRock.

I received a reply back from Emily stating that the BIOSes are the same between the R1.0 and the R2.0 boards.

Please flash using 1.90 as that has the "4GB Compatibility" of 1.80 rolled into it.

Thanks wardog, there was no good reason to my original intention in updating to BIOS P1.80.

So I update the BIOS to P1.90 succefully. But the problem persist :(.

          Some remarks:
The startup screen of the BIOS when I power up the machine show's 2944MB.
If I enter to the BIOS overview (F2) recognizes 4096MB. But identifies the modules as PC2-4300 but I know there are PC2-5300.
Windows XP x32 shows 2.943MB physical memory
          Linux x64 (Ubuntu 13.10) shows 2883MB.

Also I do a simple memory test with a Ubuntu 13.10 x64 utility and the report says:

          Name:memory/info

          Result: FAILED

Comment: /proc/meminfo reports: 2953072.0 kB lshw reports: 4194304.0 kB FAIL: Meminfo reports 1271021568 bytes less than lshw, a difference of 29.59%. Only a variance of 20% in reported memory is allowed.

Here is the "dump" of other linux commands:

          root@ubuntu:~# lshw -C memory
