Hi,
I have been reseting bios ### number of times lately...and I am getting really tired of doing that.... and also a bit afraid of destroying something.
My rig : ->
Ep45-ds3
Q9550 E0 stepping
Corsair ddr2 800 Mhz 444-12 @ 2.1 V OFFICIAL rating
I can get it to run at 3.4 Ghz (400 fsb) but NOT on 3.68 Ghz (433 fsb). At 433 fsb windows starts up but as soon as I run prime95 it crashes quite directly. Please help me, I am tired and desperate.
By the way, getting it to run at 400 fsb with 4-4-4-12 timing I can achive without increasing any voltage (just setting cpu volt to 2.25, dram to 2.1 and the rest of the settings from auto to the fixed values, where applicable).
To reach 400 fsb I did the following basically (dont know how to get all info copied and pasted in here like others do...so I have to write from the top of my head ).
Loaded optimized defaults.
Turned of all powersaving stuff, like EIST C1E...
Set CPU volt to 2.25 (not auto but same as VID I guess)
Set PCI freq to 100 (not auto but default I guess)
C.I.A2 disabled
Performace enhance I set to lowest...or something like that
X.M.P disabled
MCH freq latch to 400
System memory multiplier (SPD) set so that it shows 800 as result...
DRAM timing set to manual where I set 4-4-4-12.
DRAM Volt I increased to 2.1 (as it states on the memories). Increasing it further to 2.2x didn't help at 443 fsb. Have not tried 2.3v.
MCH I doesnt matter if I have 1.1 or 1.3 when running 400 fsb but having 1.3 does not help 433 fsb.
With the above (which I have as typing now and running prime) works ok... (1 hour now running prime )...but when I do the single change in bios of FSB to 433 I cannot get prime to work (but windows starts up). Then I have to reset bios to get the computer to work.
I am getting desperat here...please help me. I really want to go higher than 400 fsb which I think shouldnt be any problem really...or???? Must be something that I am missing here...
Thanks
Peter.
PS1. I tried running 433 fsb with relaxed timings of the mem as well...like more than 5-5-5-18 (it was auto, something like 6..6...20 cpuz reported), but it failed as well.
PS2. I have updated from bios F7 to latest F9 as well but no difference in results.
PS3. The temps that realtemp/cpuid hw monitor (43,42,41,42)/(48,47,46,47) show as max in centigrade celcius aren't very high during prime...
PS4. When going from 400 fsb to 433 I did 410 and 420 before. 410 was ok without any volt change. 420 I had to inc cpu and mch volt to 1.3 and 1.16. However looking back maybe I was a bit to fast, I don't know if it really was stable, I didn't run that much prime really....
PS5. Running at 400 fsb and 444-12 really seems OK so far.
Again....please help me to get further with my computer and thanks for this forum!!!
