  • Advice: OverClocking Q8200 with EP45T-Extreme

Sorry, I re-posted it in the overclocking section:

    Hi all,

I'm at work at the moment, so I can't give details into exact which you may require, but I can when I get home (Details that you'd request to make my question answered easier).

I want to overclock my Intel Q8200, I know it can't be overclocked a lot, I didn't buy it for that purpose (I know the contradiction of this post), but I'd like to overclock it slightly, I've read you can get to 2.8, 2.9ghz safely.

    My set is:

    Motherboard: Gigabyte EP45T-Extreme
    RAM: G.Skill DDR3 1333 2x2GB
    CPU: Q8200

What program(s) would I need to achive it, what settings would I need to do, I've never overclocked before due to fear about warranty or failure issue in the past, but I plan to upgrade my current CPU in a year (bought it mainly cause of the 45nm over the Q6600 65nm processor).

Also, would heating become an issue, I've got a thermaltake liquid cooling set (not installed yet, just need pump, not sure if I should bother installing it if I were to overclock it, advice needed there too)

    Thanks in advance,
    Adrian

Re: Advice: OverClocking Q8200 with EP45T-Extreme

Please give me a link to your ram or the model # if you cannot find a link.

Ya, you can likely do 2.8-3.0 for sure, dont know how the stock cooling would be on that though as I have not seen many use this CPU or stock coolers. So you may want to go ahead and install your water once you get your pump.
(That's why you bought it right? )

For now, with 2x2GB you should set MCH Voltage to 1.2-1.3 and set your ram voltage to what you see on the sticker, put performance enhance on standard.

After you link me to your ram I can better advise you with a full table of optimal settings

      Also.

Part of my initial post was to tell me how to overclock. What program, will I need to do it in the bios etc.

      Thanks.

Yes, in the BIOS all overclocking should be done there.

Try this for 2.975 This will have your ram loose for now so if you have issues it is likely voltages. We can tighten up your ram timings or raise the speed once you get going >>>>

          Ok thanks.

I'll bookmark this page and come back to it and try it when I get liqiud cooling, would rather not do it on stock cooler.

          Regards,

Ahh ok! Ya, you can't push to hard with a stock cooler

Good luck on getting your water setup!

What do you mean my ram will be at a lose?

Re: Advice: OverClocking Q8200 with EP45T-Extreme

By ram loose I meant slower speeds and looser (Higher) timings.

Hey, so did that link I pm'd you at Overclock.net get you into your BIOS or not?

                    lsdmeasap,

                    with regards to this post:

What would I need (settings) to achieve 2.6ghz stable?

Would I need any voltage change (you know gigabyte well I'm assuming) etc.?

                    Thanks

Please make a new thread and someone will help you for sure.

I Pm'd you to also read this guide as P31 boards are pretty easy to overclock, so after you read this you will likely get started yourself until someone can help you
