  • Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G and Q6600 Overclocking

    Hey Guys,

Was wondering if anyone could help me?

I'm currently trying to overclock my processor to 3.0+, have had a fiddle, but each attempt has resulted in my computer turning off after seconds of booting, then resetting the BIOS settings. Even when trying something as low as 2.8.

    Here's my spec.

    MotherBoard: GA-p35-s3g
    Processor: Intel Q6600 GO stepping
    HeatSink: Arctic Cooling Pro7
    RAM: 4X 2gig 800MHz 2.1V

Can anyone recommend any settings to try out?

I've set the RAM ratio down to 2.0, and set the voltage to match also.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

    Tim_gti,

I've had a GA-P35-S3G for one year now and luv it.

    1. How long have you been using your GA-P35-S3G?

    2. When you load "Fail Safe" settings does the PC works fine?

    3. Do you understand the difference between BIOS changes on our MOBO and more traditional MOBOs?

Re: Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G and Q6600 Overclocking

        Chers for replying guys.

I've been using the boaard for close to a year now. Only just started to try and overclock though.

Here's the RAM I'm using, 2 2 gig sticks here:

        OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory NVIDIA SLI READY EDITION CL5 - Ebuyer

        And 2 of these sticks:

        OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC6400 Titanium Memory CL4(4-4-4-15) - Ebuyer

In regards to the template you've included, do you want me to give you my settings as they are now? Or the settings when I try and overclock?

          hehe np!

But the laugh is because I bet that ONLY using the pair with the tighter timings is the way to go.

Right now, both sets should be running at the slower of the two sets.

And, you only need 4 GB RAM for vista and 2 GB RAM for XP. (Gaming wise.)

We'll see what Lsdmeasap says. He's the Man!

          c ya tim_gti!

Yeh I heard from a few sources that the RAM is causing the problems. I need 8gig as I use my computer primarily for video editing.

              I see.

Well for now, post your BIOS settings with the template Lsdmasap provided and he'll spot the obvious. One little setting he suggested this week for me made an enormous improvement on my PC.

                    Cool!

Now list the settings when you attempt to overclock.

                    And your BIOS version.

And add your System Summary to your sig.

I haven't attempted it in a month or so. So will have to gather some info on what settings i tried out again.

BIOS is the most up to date. Will find out exactly what it is though.

Your BIOS version is displayed on the Motherboard Tab of CPU-Z.

If u need to, download CPU-Z from: CPUID

Ya, I would like to see your overclock settings if that is what you want help with.

And I MUST advise you that running 8GB is already hard on a P35 chipset, mixing ram chips makes things even worse and you may not ever find a good stable point.

Let me have your settings and thought and I will advise back

BIOS Profiles can be a lifesaver, and sanity saver. Always take advantage of them, F11 on the MAIN page of the BIOS is save, and F12 is load

                            Hi,
Have been able to overclock my system without a probem (333FSBx9Multiplyer = 3Ghz) but have just installed the following RAM
                            KHX8500D2K2/4G - Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 HyperX Memory CL5 2.2V - Ebuyer

My problem is that I can only run at 800Mhz even after changing the BIOS to the right settings of 5/5/5/15 2.2v orig 5/5/5/18 1.8v

Win XP Hme see's 3.5Gb which I knew BUT was hopping to have 1066Mhz NOT 800Mhz!

Have posted in Kingston forum too but trying everywhere I can to try and Find a away to get my RAM working as it says on the tin.

                            Thanks,
                            Shaun

According to that link... it's better to rely on Specs from the Manufacturer's product page ... your RAM needs 2.2v and not the default 1.8v.

                              1.8v=800MHz

                              2.2v=1066MHz

But remember to double check at Manufacturer's page.
