  • Help needed with GA-P35-DQ6 and crucial ballistix

Not sure what is wrong with it but I found the following settings, it didn't works perfectly but when I ran the memory test, I got the error after 36% which is huge success as I was getting the error with 10% before.

But after rebooting my machine, I am getting the error within 5%.

Can someone please help and suggest me the stable settings. I tried without overclocking and with overclocking and none worked

Another "while you wait for more informed answers" comment:

Not knowing the board ,I assume it gives all memory 1.8v approx and you put in the +.30 to bring it up to 2.1?(I mean the ddr2 overvoltage control btw)
It doesnt detect the voltage the mem needs on auto?
If there is a finer adjustment and its 2.1v memory that you have, perhaps put in +.32 in the adjustment. there might be voltage drop on the memory when the pc is actually running, like mine.
Maybe the memory is running at 2.08 or less under load with memtest with the .30.
Utilities like cpuz or speedfan should let you check that.perhaps you would even need +.33 or +.34 if there is an adjustment like that.
Actually check what voltage the memory is at while memtest is running with your template first.. then you should know what to add,if anything.

Re: Help needed with GA-P35-DQ6 and crucial ballistix

      thanks for your reply
yes the board gives 1.8v to all memory, so I added +.30 which bring us to 2.1v

then I have tried this, so always I get 2.3 and above.

      (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.300V] --- I tried +.2 -.3

BTW these are the values I retrieved from CPU-Z
      under SPD tab
      Module Size: 1024MBytes
      Correction: None
      Max Bandwidth: PC2-6400 (400MHz) ----*isn't this my memory I think I have PC8500 (1066)
      Manufacturer: Crucial Technology
      SPD Ext: EPP

      Under Timing Table
      JEDEC #2 Voltage: 1.8V
      JEDEC #3 Voltage: 1.8V
      EPP #1 Voltage: 2.200V
      EPP #2 Voltage: 2.200V

Re: Help needed with GA-P35-DQ6 and crucial ballistix

Have you tried both RAM sticsk seperately? One may be defective. Also try +0.4V on the RAM, my Crucial Ballistix (double sided w/ D9GMH, is yours double or single-sided?) needed 2.2V for 1066 and above on my P35 DQ6.

Thanks for your quick reply Nickel020

I havn't actually tried sticks seprately, I had problem with this RAM initially and I RMAed and crucial send me new one, same problem i.e. BSODs and then they said no this is a settings problem, since then I stuck with those rams now.

I have upload my CPUz file here
          CPU-Z Validator 3.0

how can I tell that are those double sided or single sided? visually I see that the ram does have spreader on both sides.

thanks for the help once again.

Re: Help needed with GA-P35-DQ6 and crucial ballistix

Can you give me a link to the RAM? I can tell you what it is then, but no matter what it is it should work with 2.2V. ALso, if you take out them RAM and look under the heatspreader from the side of the conenctor you should be able to see if there are chips on both isdes or not. Double-Sided is better since it uses lower densitiy chips that overclock higher, but at 1066 and stock timings you won't notice a difference.
Have you tried runnning the RAM at DDR2 800? if that works we can be sure that this is a settings issue.
Are you sure your CPU is stable at those settings? It may need more voltage which can also cause the Memtest errors.

Re: Help needed with GA-P35-DQ6 and crucial ballistix

these are the ram I am using.
              Newegg.com - Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

Yes I ram those on 800 speed awhile ago and it works fine, when I run those on 1066, no matter I overclock the cpu or not it is BSOD.

can u suggest the recommended voltage for cpu?
also how far I can go with the memory voltage? I see some red values there too..

thanks once again for your help.

Re: Help needed with GA-P35-DQ6 and crucial ballistix

Sorry, I meant that I needed a link at the actual part number, ebcasue that model is sold both as single-sided and double-sided, but I think recently only single-sided has been produced.
Try runnign Prime 95 for several hours at DDr2 800, then we can be sure that only the BIOS settings are the problem here.
Also, if you don't mind you could just leave the RAM at 1066, it's not like there is a noticeable difference between 800 and 1066, see the link in my signature for some benchmarks.

Also, there is no recommended voltage for the CPU, as every CPU is different. if the system runs fine with the RAM at DDR2 800 and this CPU voltage then everything is fine, if not try increasing the RAM voltage.

Re: Help needed with GA-P35-DQ6 and crucial ballistix

I think from his CPU-z info these are double sided since they are rated at 2.2V. I think all the single sided ones are 2.0V now, but I could be wrong.

On that note, you can RMA again and request the new single sided ones and just say you have already RMA'd once and you believe the older 2.2v sticks have compatibility issues and they should ship you out the new ones

Try this and see if it helps you anymore >>>

You are overclocked right? Looks like it, just wanted to be sure if you know if your CPU Voltage is stable or not? I will give you some settings to try, one with ram at 1066 the other ram will be at 1000 but on a different strap. If the A Strap works better for you, to get 1066 you will just need to raise the FSB a little (355) then to reach 1066

                    thank you so much.

that really helps, it made the pc stable since past week.

but again when I run the vista memory diagnostic, it error out after 35%

but pc looks stable, and not BSOD since a week.

any other recommendable change that I should try?
