  • 4ghz, UD3R and Team Xtreeme Dark 2x2GB DDR1066

    Hello Everyone.

You may read my previous thread here:

As reccomended, I purchased the Gigabyte EP45-UD3R MB to replace my EX38-DQ6 one from before. I Also purchased some new RAM. Team Xtreeme Dark 2x2gb DDR1066. I have now given up with my 8GB Gskills for the time being.

My ambitions remain the same, id like solid settings for 333x9 * 1000/1066mhz and 500x8 * 1000/1066 when running my E8400.

At stock, (333x9) everything is stable, but sluggish when starting up and occationally programs stop working (same problem as before with my DQ6) Suddenly stopped working, random memory errors etc.

Having tried different settings, i have found something strange. If I leave all my memory and driving settings on Auto, everything works fine. When however I slacken the settings to understand my max CPU speed, the system is unstable.

Here are my settings at the moment:

These settings make my PC freeze on startup, either at post or bios setup screen, as of right now i cant get in the bios at all, after previously getting a checksum error.
Its quite funny, because with my EX38 board, getting to 4ghz wasnt a problem, but this one it seems it is.

The settings that i can do stock are 333x9, 3.20b multi and ram 5,5,5,15 everthing else sluggish.

I really have spent so much time researching threads in these forums, allthough much are of great help, none of the settings have helped me...

Really hope to gain some suggestions here.

    Cheers

I found this today while looking for hi fsb with my Q8200,there is some action on E8400 there as well.
    GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P OC Reivew

settings (fine tuning), i only know mine, but funnily enough auto on everything except main mem timing, the ram multiplier(B or D) and the 3 main voltages got me into os npat the max speed I can get.

      Re: 4ghz, UD3R and Team Xtreeme Dark 2x2GB DDR1066

Well leaving things on Auto apart from Cpu v and mch v here are my results:

      8x500. 2.00D 4ghz 1000mhz. v1.400
      6x500 2.00d 3.19gz 1066. v1.300 v1.340
      6x550 2.00d 3.30ghz 1100. v1.400 v1.340
      7x550 2.00d 3.83ghz 1100 v1.400 v1.340

Id like to get 550x7.5 to get above the 4ghz mark but system BSODs any suggestions how i can do this? My temp under load using Intel Burn test is 73 max, not sure i can add more v to that.

Also, is there a way instead to loosen advance mem timings/drive to rais fsb further?

Grr just realised I named this thread wrongly, its infact 2 x 2gb, not 2x4gb:P

        I have managed stable also with the following 9x445 2.00d 890mhz 5,4,4,11

          Re: 4ghz, UD3R and Team Xtreeme Dark 2x2GB DDR1066

          Title Corrected for ya

I would suggest more PLL for sure, and maybe less Vtt, but maybe not.... I would also raise ICH I/O to 1.55, and ICH Core to 1.14-1.2

You should be able to loosen (manually set) your ram to be able to raise the FSB

Maybe your AUTO on static tRead is too low. Can you please post me a screenshot of Memset so I can see what all you are getting for the Auto's?

Aside from the Auto's and maybe you need more vcore all looks like it should be ok. So I think using Auto for one or more of those ram timings may be what is holding you back.

Since you are jumping around, post what you got (Settings and Memset image) to as of late that you want help with and I can try to help ya.

            Re: 4ghz, UD3R and Team Xtreeme Dark 2x2GB DDR1066

This board is far more challenging compared to my EX38 previously in terms of OC settings, but it pays off, as unlike before, it is possible now for me to test differences between configurations and overclocks, before my EX38 was completely Randomly causing instability.

Ok, ive tried a few more possibilities such as raising PLL and Static T read to 12 each time.

I have 3 configs im working on, one of which is 100% stable, which I suppose is good for comparison. But id like help with all 3.I have also made screens of EasyTune both in 8x500 and 9x445 configs so you can compare. I tried also in 7x550 but windows wouldnt boot. 7X550 is very unstable, when stress testing in windows on this config, immediately there was a BSOD. Now when windows loads there is a BSOD, but luckily i made a Memset and CPUz screenshot before this.

Method of testing stability is using the intel burn in test, Linpack x64 using 100% memory and error detection.5x Passes, but will of course try more once 100% sure each config is stable. With 1.4v and 1.38 vtt, my core gets at hottest 75'c averaging 72'c. Not sure if this is a problem, but I have re-seated my Xigmatek Achilles S1284C (Sucessor of S1283) using my MX2 Paste. The sink is deffinately mounted properly, but still using the pushpin system. - would you say these temps are normal? I think they are quite high...

Start with the possitive: Im happy with the memory timings here and that its stable, but i want to work now on decreasing advance memory timings and voltages, if you could help me with this, it would be great .

              --------------------------------------------------

As advised, In both occations I tried adding more and less vtt, more PLL and I have tested with 12, sometimes 13 static tRead with no avail. The settings that seem to have the largest affect are MCH core which I cant seem to lower any more and driving strength. If i set driving strength from Auto, the board seems to post less often. This is apart from when its set to 800mhz for the 445x9 config.

Once again thanks Lsdmeasap your support here is terrific. Thanks also to kick, as your link helped me to at least get the settings to where I am now.

Suggestions for each 3 configs welcome :)

                  Re: 4ghz, UD3R and Team Xtreeme Dark 2x2GB DDR1066

Ok, there is definitley something wrong with another component in my pc, maybe the power inputting the PC. This seems to actually be showing now alot more compared to before (maybe because now I have a GTX 280 compared to a ATI 3850?).

My pc last night when i turned it on was in a constant reboot state, reboot, shutdown, reboot shutdown etc. I had the 445x9 profile saved at this time.

So I then, switched the PSU off, unplugged the AC power cord and pressed the computer on/off switch to get rid of any traces of current. Plugged AC Cord back in, turned on PSU and switched on. I managed to get in to the Bios to revert to my default profile (everything stock). Then i hit F10 to save and restart and the computer started doing exactly the same thing again at stock, starting, powering off, starting etc.

I repeated the above steps and this time didnt go in to bios, the pc seems to be working fine now.

Im wondering here, because the fact I had my pc turned off for a long time may have something to do with repeating this problem (even with my old board).

What at could be the cause of this considering it seems to happen still despite me replacing the following components and also seems to happen when my pc is left on or off for a long period of time.

                  ATI 3850>GTX 280

Yes, P45 is a HUGE Leap forward in BIOS settings compared to X38/48 and P35 models, for sure!!

I still say you are using way to much Vtt, I have ran 550 FSB using only 1.34 Vtt

I really hate to tell you this, but I think you need to start over!! You main issues may stem from having loaded and applied Fail Safe defaults and I would advise you to load optimized and toss all your profiles and start again. You can of course use those are reference points, but I think you using fail safe as a starting point may be why you feel you have to use such large amounts of voltages.

2.88 Ram voltage???? You better lower that. 2.2-2.3 is not what they recommend, only what they warrant the memory to. You will not need that to be stable at normal speeds. And I see 2.1-2.2 as the max warrantied anyway from the link you gave, just so you know. Most 1066 ram will run fine at 2.0-2.1, it is when you push it past that it may need more, but not 2.3 until after 1200+ and for sure if you are seeing 2.88 in the PC Health section you have a problem.

If you are seeing 2.88 in the PC Health section, can you please also verify that with Everest Ultimate?

I know you hate to hear this response because I am not going to offer suggestions for settings, only because I want you to load and apply optimized and then start at things. If I make suggestions now you may not do that, and then change only the things I advise and still have issues due to hidden settings that fail safe uses.

So please load optimized and start again and I can help. And safe yourself some grief and work on one profile at a time until you have it stable, then move to the next. your first two profiles can be easily done, the latter will take some effort for sure

Ahh ok, well that is more acceptable for sure. But again you may only need above 2.1 at higher then stock speeds

I just wanted you to start again due to you had been using fail safe settings as a starting point, which of course has some incorrect visible and invisible settings when it comes to overclocking.

I's say ya, start with the middle ground as the lower is easier and the higher of course would be harder

Here is a basic 450x9 setup (DO NOT use till after you load optimized or you will again be working for nothing and use too high of voltages) >>>
