How to recover a bad bios flash?

I didn't do this and i don't know what happened (flashing through windows i think) i got an old GA-K8N Ultra-SLI mainboard. When the board powers up all the fans spin up the cd/dvd and hdd. drives read for a bit and that's it the monitor doesn't turn on at all. It is a duel bios mainboard so both chips must be corrupt. I've cleared the cmos taken the battery out and the chips don't come out. I was wondering if their was anything else that can be done or somewhere to start? or is the board just a paperweight

any help would be great cheers



a bit of a update i got the first p.o.s.t. screen up and it does detect my ide cdrom drive but i get a checksum error defaults loaded and down the bottom of the screen: press f1 to continue and: press Del to enter setup do either and the screen goes black with a blinking cursor

I haven't read all the posts in the Bios Flashing Guide thread, but I would guess that many others have asked questions on his thread.

So can you still bring up this last screen mentioned? If so, then your board is likely fine. You should be able to enter the BIOS from there, or when booting. Can you not? Are you using a PS/2 Keyboard, if not please connect one and see if you can then enter the BIOS. Also please disconnect all external devices and anything Connected Via USB.

The is a few ways to possibly recover a BIOS, the easiest is if you ALREADY had a floppy connected. If you did then you can blind flash which is outlined in the Guide here, if you did not already have it connected and set as first boot device then this will not work >>>

Does it ever say searching for backup BIOS? If so you can try putting in the motherboard CD, as it may have a backup BIOS on it.

Aside from those Two methods the only other thing I can suggest is for you to try and clear the CMOS again using the method I outline in the Guide linked above and then try to start the machine again with only one stick of ram in slot one.
