Re: how to set 4gb ram on p31-ds3l

So both sets are ok by themselves right, just not together? Just want to be sure if you have tested them both separately, incase you have a bad set

Here is what I would advise for 4Gb of those set at stock CPU Speed>>

        Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
        CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [7]
CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled or Disabled is fine]
        CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [333]
        PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
        C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
        System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.00B]
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]

        Performance Enhance = [Standard]

        CAS Latency Time________________ 5
        Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________5
        Dram RAS# Precharge Delay______5
        Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________15/18

ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________ Auto is fine or 3-4
Rank Write to READ Delay________ Auto is fine or 3-6
Write to Precharge Delay_________Auto if fine or 3-6
Refresh to ACT Delay______________52-62 Manually set
Read to Precharge Delay__________ Auto is fine or 3-5
Static tRead Value_______________ 6-10 (Auto may not be fine here, set 6-7 and see if that corrects any issues you have if voltage suggestions do not)

Static tRead Phase Adjust________ [Auto] << always Auto/Zero

        System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
        DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.100V]
        PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [+0.1V] << For stability
FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V] << For stability
        (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.2V-+0.3] <<< Needed for 4GB
        CPU Voltage Control_______ [Auto]

Limit CPUID Max. to 3.....................: [Disabled]
        No-Execute Memory Protect............: [Enabled]
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)................: [Disabled] << you may leave enabled if you want
        C2/C2E State Support....................: [Disabled]
        x C4/C4E State Support..................: [Disabled]
CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2) ...........: [Enabled]
CPU EIST Function.........................: [Disabled] << you may leave enabled if you want
Virtualization Technology................: [Disabled] Enabled if you use Vmware/Virtual PC

        Integrated Peripherals
Legacy USB Storage Detect___________________[Disabled] *Note* Must be enabled to flash from USB

so i use 2 stick before adding the another 2 to config the bios setting then only i add in the 2 more stick..
when i started up the pc it still hang on the bios..
then i remove again to check my setting but i realise that the setting automatic turn back to auto mode.
i did save the setting on cmos.
btw my bios is the manufacture version..
do i need to update my bios?
I am not sure what you are saying above, but I think I got ya maybe? What you need to do is set the things I suggested and save and apply and reboot back to the BIOS and be sure they are still applied. If so then shut down and then put in your other set of sticks.

You have tested the other sticks right? If not you need to, so you are sure they are not faulty. If you do not have another PC to use to test, you can just use them by themselves and take out your old ones. If they do not work, but your other ones do in the same slots then they are likely bad.

Yes, I would advise you update your BIOS. Did you check to see what Version it is, you can check with CPU-z in the Mainboard tab, or look in the BIOS. To see BIOS Version from the BIOS on the MAIN page of the BIOS press F9 and you will then see system info and BIOS version.

Your board is now on BIOS Version F9 Final or F10a Beta After F4-F5 and above there has been a Memory compatibility update, so those may help. I would flash F9 >>>
          GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Motherboard - BIOS - GA-P31-DS3L (rev. 1.x)

Please read and follow my guide for how to safely flash your BIOS >>
