A Normal Ghost image would not work because you would not have the RAID Driver installed. Unless Norton Ghost now allows you to add drivers in while you mirror a file back to the drives, I know it did not last time I used it.

What would work like that though is Acronis's program True Image Echo Workstation, with the Plugin Called Universal Restore (Google Can help, I cannot here) >>

As for Building from existing data I am not sure how that works as I use RAID 0 myself, hopefully some RAID 1 users will chime in to help you out. In the Meantime this may help you, here is the Manual for the Intel RAID ROM and Matrix Storage Manager >>

Clean install would be easy if you end up going that route.
1. Connect RAID 1 Drives to port 0 and 1 (Yellow)
2. Set RAID in the BIOS >>>

Integrated Peripherals

SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) ............. RAID
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode ................................... Enabled (or Disabled, both will work)
3. Reboot to Intel RAID Rom (Control + I at Bootup)
4. Create RAID 1 Array
5. Install Vista and Install RAID Driver Via USB When option is given (Yes, even though you see your disk, install RAID Driver anyway from Intel)

6.Enjoy

Ohh Almost forgot, if your drives are making noise you should start saving for new ones now before you run out of time. Or RMA those you have

Mate, I can always count on you for a speedy response, and dont worry I have got a pretty good back up resiem going on, I will just loose some new downloads (video) nothing Mission Critical, but it wouldnt be a nice feeling anyway. Also the second 1TB drive is as of tonight in the mail. I went with another ST31000333AS drive as I only just got one at christmas time for my new comp. Ill just use the 750gb in my dell as a gimp drive later on. I probably will go with a Fresh install as it would be a nice thing to do. Id be just waiting for microsoft to send the police over to kick down my door with the amount of times Ive activated my Office 2003 pro. lol. Oh well this will give me something to think about tonight. Thanks LSD

Well I used to be able to reply MUCH Faster, before P45 came out, plus the forum has been growing I think. Now I am behind almost everday for sure!

Well good luck once you get your drive delivered. Ya I would go for a clean install as well, your system will thank you.

Im Leaning towards a fresh install. I dont like mucking with deep settings much Id rather everything just work. I tell ya have you ever used one of those Belkin easy transfer usb dongle things. Maybe that will help me? I dont know how it goes from Vista to Vista but from XP to Vista it moves your emails and everything. just takes half the day.

Yeah mate they are as easy as it gets. Basically all i did was put the CD in the XP machine it ran a little program, then I plugged it into both machines and within a few seconds on both machine the program started to run, which looked very Genuine Windows like (vista style window so xp machine) and basically you can select what you want to transfer add stuff that isnt in the usually document locations or just do it all. Im not really sure about what happened with the office as the new Tosiba had Office 2007 preinstalled (30 Trial) and then also student and teacher 2007 installed so it was all crazy and I just cleared all office and started again. But yeah Easy, SLOW, (Im talking about, I went for a helicopter ride ((my first time)) and came back and it was like 1/4 way) oh but something to add was the old machine was only USB 1 so that probably had a lot to do with it.

Thanks for the info! Ya, I bet USB 1.0/1.1 had alot to do with it. I plan to pickup a set of these so I will let you know once I do and how it transfers on USB 2.0

I got my 2nd ST3100033AS 1TB Seagate today. Just running Seatools on it to make sure its sweet. It has a different Firmware then the other one and I cant seem to get this Later Firmware for the old one. Will this Affect My RAID abilities do you think?? I have updated my "old" drive to the fixed fireware as it was originally effected by a problem. I cant wait to get my new HD4850 I seriously think my 8800GT is about to take a ****e on me as no matter what OS fresh installes what drivers from original all the way through to new is still crashes on Fallout 3 And Now even Crysis and ARMA: Armed Assault with some NVDM... bla bla has stopped responding and suxcussfully recovered. Windows 7 this feature is **** as nothing actually does recover but in vista is works but the constant black screens always happen A) When flying a helicopter, B)Under Heavy fire or C)Trying to land a jet ((Arma)) all of which result in death which is annoying. So bring on the ATI im confident that it will fix my problem.

I would think it may actually, firmware often makes a larger difference in speed then one notices, but sometimes not. Benchmark them both before you use them as RAID and see if they are close.

What firmware is it you need and I may be able to find it for you? Here is the latest ones for problematic drives >>>Seagate Knowledge Base

But like I said, if you need something specific and understand the risks let me know and I can likely get you the firmware you want

Ha Finally after 3 hours the Long Test in sea tools is finished with 0 errors and Passed. Yeah ok Ill run HD TUNE? Umm the older one had SD1B Firmware up From the dreaded SD15 and the new one has CC1A on it

Yeah I searched Seagate and its still tells me that SD1B is the go for the drive. but they are def the same model. So IDK

I might Email Seagate myself and see what they have to say. They are pretty good at getting back to me.

Well I have finally got my ATI HD4850 in, and so far everything looks sweet. Its wierd, the graphics look sorta better in a way on the same settings in Fallout 3, A little darker but Ive just been tinkering in the Control thingy and seem to have made it look nice again. Bloody thing runs a little warm but. I ended up with a stupid single slot, factory cooler. Ive cranked up the fan to 40%, any more and it gets a little loud. Seems to make a big difference.

I havent set up my RAID 1 yet. I'm having to much fun with Multi booting, I have however, Used up 500+Gigs on one of my 1TB drives with a Ghost of my Possibly Dying, Probably not Drive. Go ATI. Fingers crossed that I wont have any more dramas. Got a big fat long weekend of Hard Core 3D Gaming to be Had coming up. ahhahaha
