Re: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P and 8gb of Mushkin 996599

My setup with one 2x2GB 996599 XP2-8500 runs best with MCH core set to 1.24 - 1.28 volts (with my high FSB). With 4x2GB, you probably need to use 1.28 - 1.32 settings.

It's not clear from your bios template what your exact settings are, especially the voltages. Please edit or submit all your exact settings, making sure where you are letting the mobo set the values using AUTO.

FYI, with the AUTO setting, the values shown are often the default settings, NOT what the mobo is actually using. For example if CPU Vcore is set to auto, this does NOT mean that the value shown in the MIT bios is the actual setting that will be used.

Once you have your system stable, we can help you improve memory performance with additional tweaks.

You do realize that this will downclock his RAM to 667MHz, right?

Yes I know, it is a first step to know if his system will become stable with this settings, then if it is ok, he try 800MHz after

Please be more specific. If you underclocked your memory to 667 MHz using the 2.0D (or 2.0B) system memory multiplier, you next step is to try the 2.40B multiplier to run your memory at 800 MHz.

Some memory manufacturers' websites state that their memory is NOT guaranteed to run at the stated speed when you're using more than 4 GB of memory.

The Mushkin forum offers quick and excellent support from their tech support staff. Give it a try. We can offer suggestions to help you run 8 GB, but it might be quicker to see what Mushkin says. The Technical Issues section is probably the best place to start.

I just searched their forum using:
              8GB settings
and got 900+ matches. I think you'll find the answer there.

Let us know how you make out and what solution(s) solved the problem.

OK, I just saw that you've already posted there. Did you try any of their suggested bios changes?

What MCH core voltages have you tried so far?

By loosening the primary memory timings from 5-5-5-15 to 5-6-6-18 it might work.

Have you tried manually setting the DRAM voltage higher. I'd start with 2.10 volts. If this works, try the next lower setting until it fails. Once it fails, bump the voltage up by one setting.

Change only one setting at a time to see what works and what doesn't. When you reply, specify which settings you tried and what the problem was: boot failure (wouldn't boot, reboot loop, etc.)? BSOD? system froze?
Be sure to include a screen shot of Memset with the timings for all modules shown (using the ">>" tab in Memset).

Will do. havent had much time to play with it recently but hopefully i'll be able to mess around with it some more this weekend. Mushkin does state that more than 4gb is not guaranteed to run at advertised speeds so im interested to see how close i can get to it before i run into issues again.

DDR2-1000 should be doable & possibly a bit higher.
