  • A Couple of questions about the GA-X48-DS5

This may be directed at Gigabyte more so than anyone else but, When I turn the Power off at the wall (after turning it off at the switch on the PSU) when I go to turn the system on again it will turn on with all lights ablaze for approx 1 second then off for 2 seconds then starts normally. It does this with The ODIN GT800 Watt and the Thermaltake TR2 550Watt PSU. Is it just the QUICK Power on self test? Is it doing harm?

Also, one thing thats annoying and it may be more case related but should be able to solve with the bios is when I bring the system out of S3 Sleep, an alarm sounds for a couple of seconds. I assume its the system fan or CPU fan alarm which I have set, I actually havent tested this with them off but I might. Im sure thats all it is though, so can the next BIOS fix this? Maybe give it a 5 second delay before alarms are sounded for fans stopping???

    Thanks for the time.

Re: A Couple of questions about the GA-X48-DS5

Ya, I would imagine your fan/S3 thoughts are correct.

The system double boot may or may not be normal, could be your beta BIOS. Did it do this with the previous final? Is your overclock 100% Stable?

Normally a double boot only happens when you changer certain settings in the BIOS while you are working on a overclock or getting things going. After you have found stability and are not changing settings it should boot only once.

Although, not many people I know (Myself included) unplug the PSU from the wall, so it could be a issue or a normal thing and just no one reports this because no one does that. I do know if you unplug your PSU from the wall eventually (Not sure of the time needed) the CMOS/BIOS Battery will be drained once the capacitors in the PSU are fully drained and that would clear your CMOS. So that could also be partially to blame, as it may need to charge the battery and then reboot to read it again similar to making CMOS Changes. Is there a reason you unplug your PSU, or was you just testing things out and noticed it?

Re: A Couple of questions about the GA-X48-DS5

Well I dont unplug my PSU I just turn it off at the wall when Im not using it cause The UPS its plugged into makes a loud noise if the power goes off and I dont like being woken up so I just turn off all the stuff. My overclock is 100% stable, havent had a crash or a freze or anything since I got my ATI HD4850, on the QUICK POST only after turning it off at the wall, everything loads normally, My OC settings are unchanged. I will experiment with the settings of after power failure and stuff. My dell, if i turn off the power to it will power on for 1sec as soon as power is restored and then off, and next time i push the on button starts fine.

Re: A Couple of questions about the GA-X48-DS5

Ahh, well whats a UPS for if you are not using it?

From your Dell comment, I would venture to say that what I thought above is likely what is happening then. The board/boards drain all the power from the PSU, then the battery dies without a charge to it and the CMOS has to be reloaded/set when you restore the power.

Sounds to me like you should maybe unplug/shut off your UPS at night and not your PC, then it would not do that.

But you will be ok if you keep doing that, as long as you expect it to happen and know why you should be all good then

Yeah, kewl. And It does it on all BIOS versions. Speaking of which, "What the" I just looked at GB website and theres another new Beta BIOS But its F8C? Im running F8D? how can they go backwards? And why cant they just release a damm proper and stop with all the Beta? it did the power thing on the original brand new board i RMA'd to which was a rev 1.3. whats the diff between my board as rev 1.1 and 1.3

Re: A Couple of questions about the GA-X48-DS5

Well did you get your F8D here or at Gigabyte's severs? We normally post all Beta's and not all Beta's hit the front page on the main Gigabyte site. So that may be why you have F8D and F8C is all you see at the Gigabyte site.

Or a few other ways that could happen. One they found a issue with F8D and pulled it and put F8C back up instead. Two, maybe you looked at one Gigabyte site then and a different one now? Sometimes they do host different files, I mean .com or .tw, ect

I am not sure what changed in revisions on X48 since it has been so long, normally they change hardware or layouts for better compatibility with things, other times a hardware change is needed so that a BIOS update can accomplish things further. Sometimes heastink designs are also changed

I got the F8D from GIGABYTE - Upgrade Your Life were I always look. IDK Im not having any dramas except for the above mentioned but they are nothing. Im happy as a pig in shi.t with the way my board and windows 7 are working.

Question. What would your opinion be if everest is telling me CPU TEMP 76, Core 1 32 Core 2 30? This is on a "cough" ACER F6 with a C2D 6300 Im looking at for a friend. Its got one sick HDD but I just noticed this.

Re: A Couple of questions about the GA-X48-DS5

Ahh well then it could be one of the above mentioned secondary reasons. See here these are the two GA Sites I always grab BIOS's from for looking into them for users available settings (.com and .tw)
                GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Products

                GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Products

May just be your .au site pulled F8D for some reason, did you check the thread here for the latest Beta? Should be a newer one posted here anyway then you would find on a official site

                *Pre Post Edit*

I just checked and all places I get Beta's only have F8C now, so there must have been a issue with F8D so it was pulled back

Is this acer using Windows 7? Is that Everest up to date? If it is Win7 or old everest it could just be a everest software issue. I would check with RealTemp and CoreTemp and see what they say

Ya, I am not sure why D was pulled. I have not heard anything about it, maybe it was posted then they just added something or quicly corrected something and just went back and named the new one F8C again?

So is the acer using the latest or at least a new Everest? What Chipset is in the board?

Yeah Its an ATI board chipset thats about all I can get as the HDD is Fried now and just BSOD and what not, SMART says the drive has exceeded 70 Degrees C. That cant be good. The other Seagate drive right ontop of it was 32 Degrees so there is something very wrong with that WD drive. It was just a open question. dont spend too much time thinking about it LSD. Im going to reseat the Cooler on the CPU its wierd that the Cores are cool when the CPU is roasting, maybe that has something to do with it restart? TEMP shutdown or something? IDK. Its still under warranty anyway so its going back to ACER "again" im not going to spend to much time on it. God ACER are such piles of crap. The only computers Ive had to fix in ages are ACER. Laptops HDD die, as well as desktop HDD;s and PSU's

Odd, I see what you mean. They have so many servers they likely just lost track of what is what.

D has been pulled though, reasons unknown to me but if it is working fine for you then I'd keep using it as there is no need to flash if you like the BIOS

I found why this is, maybe this is your thread? If not this user has found the same issues anyway >>

In Taiwan GIGABYTE write more than one person BIOS files.
If a writer begins his work, he gets the next lower-case letters for his work, such as a, so if it seven BIOS versions were F8a.
That his earlier work, does not necessarily mean that its BIOS will be ready quicker than the work of Scribe B, who has worked F8b.

                              Logical?
If further work is started, you want to unnecessarily upset the order and then it just an "old" BIOS for the "newer" appear. When the beta is quite common (it is not even released any beta). In the final
                              versions of course not.
