Re: A Couple of questions about the GA-X48-DS5

Hey Thanks LSD for your research. Na its not my thread, I only have Tweaktown, SevenForums & streetcommodores membership as well as the torrent community.

I understand why they do it now, but its still a silly idea. Why dont they just make one BIOS that has all fixes. lol. Oh well Im sticking to F8d as it works fine and infact I dont think F8b would let me run with no voltage up's however F8d im running 3.8ghz with absolutly no voltage increases on anything which is good. Nice and stable. P.S ATI rocks over Nvidia man, you may remember a while back I was tellin you about my 8800GT dramas, well all is perfect as soon as I put in the HD4850.

Re: A Couple of questions about the GA-X48-DS5

Ya, I agree it is confusing, especially for the consumer/beta testers.

Yeap, stick to what you know and like, Some people swear by a old BIOS and never use new ones so it is all up to you. I always try all new ones of course, yet to find an older one I like for any recent boards so I have always been running the latest Beta's but of course I do a lot of testing on various things for users so I generally need to test things in the latest Beta's anyway.

I agree, No Nvidia here in any of my builds, nor do I suggest it to my customers. I personally only use Sapphire cards in my own setups

Re: A Couple of questions about the GA-X48-DS5

Yeah I dont think Id go back to NVIDIA anytime soon. The ATI just seems so much easier and I like there contol panel heaps. In house fan control is so easy, just one click on the toolbar icon. Ive read you like the Sapphire cards and they are available over here in Aus, however my HD4850 from all I can tell is either just flat out Dell, or just a plan jane ATI as its the Reference card all over. Temps were high but i have the fan set at 40% all the time, can hardly hear it and i just crank the volume anyway, Idles at like 29 C and load 60's. Cant be happier. p.s in GPU-z its got vendor as Dell so IDK. But For free, the price was right!

Ya, sounds like a Dell to me then!

I have 3870 Toxic cards, very nice. Since I do not game or anything last years high tech is normally what I buy. Price was right for me as well, 70-80 apiece I paid for them

I used to like Nvidia year ago, but hate them now and have not used one at all for several years now. Everyone has there own opinion on that of course, I hated all the Nvidia driver errors and see people daily say the same about ATI so who knows?

I know I never have ANY Driver issues with Sapphire cards

Ever Since Voodoo went down I have been using NVIDIA, Ive never really had any problems with them untill the 8800GT up from a 7300LE. The 8800GT was a Sparkle Brand. SH IT as. It died got the replacement and its near death lol. The Dell HD4850 Should be pretty good quality. Dell are pretty good in AUS. Ive never had trouble with any dell's

HAHA Voodoo I mean HP! I checked them out the other day by customer request and was surprised to see that they now only offer 2-3 machines

Dell = OEM/generic Only here, I mean waste of cash for an overclocker/gamer, even the way to overpriced 3-5000 ones. Sure they are fine for an office machine, or a general surfer/email checking type of user but that's about it I think.

Dell bought out Alienware, hopefully they don't take that down the drain, I think those are overpriced as well but they are nice machines

Re: A Couple of questions about the GA-X48-DS5

I mean Voodoo as in 3Dfx Voodoo 1,2 & 3 Video Cards back in the 90's Voodoo3 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I had a 3Dfx Voodoo 3 3000 16Mb PCI Card. It made Quake look sick and Halflife was now playable.

I only bought the dell I have and use as my daily driver because I had no money and I used there Finance and it was resonably Priced for what it was when i got it. I would by More dell laptops as well as they are good. I set up a customer of mine with an Dell I7 "Server" with raid 1 which is what i liberated the HD4850 From. lol. Not gunna need it sitting on top of a cupboard. I didnt wanna have to worry about warranty and stuff, they its onsite with the XPS warranty so its all good. They are not bad systems, and they seem ok quality, ive had no problems with my Pentium D system except that its a bit slow now. thats why i built my Sig system for games now. NowThe wife can screw this dell system up as much as she likes. Alienware, I was looking at there website the other day just for interest, and OMG what a bunch of Rip off C**NTS. I tripple check this, but to add another 7200RPM SATA 1TB HDD it was $918 AUD. Fark that. I dont go much on there cases either.

Thats right, 3Dfx rocked for the Original Half Life cause it had the option for OPENGL with 3Dfx Mini Drivers and it made it look even better.

I had a Rev 1.3 board, but after a bunch of stuffed parts I got for the build I ended up RMA'ing that board and the replacement was a Rev 1.1 I contacted Megabuy were I got it from in AUS and they said that all they had in was rev 1.1 Anyway it didnt really bother me, I think the only difference I could find was the latch on the PCI-e Slots I think is different but who card. As long as the bit ch keeps working ill be happy.

LAN ports not working hey, that doesnt sound ideal. I hope mine doesnt do any crazy shi t like that. Now I have my ATI card its the more sick kick ass system ive used. To be Honest it really does fly along better doing most everyday stuff than that STOCK 920 I7 dell System did with RAID 1. Im sure for video edit and stuff it will kick but my C2D already encodes a DVD in 1/3 the time my Pentium D does so Im happy. Ill just wait till I7's come down a bit then Ill move the C2D to the daily comp and the I7 can be my new gaming rig. I also want to wait till they work out all the little bugs.

Ahh, I thought you meant Voodoo the PC Builders, used to be like Alienware, but nicer. Now not to hot.

Ya they (Alienware) have crazy prices, you can build 3 systems (BETTER) From scratch with the same amount you would pay for one after a customize build price is revealed to you

Have never really liked ATI, and don't seem to have problems with my 8800GT but will have to do some research into next upgrade (due soon)

                            Hi Nimrod,

I'm glad to found your message.
                            THis behaviour simply killing me.

                            > After switching off PSU, (so disconnet from 220V),
first boot is until 1-2 sec than turn off for 3-4 sec.
                            Than starts normally.

It is definetly not your psu or beta bios problem.
                            I'm on factory packed x48-ds5 with f7.
No overclock or overclock does not matter.

I was on chieftec psu since long time (several 400W, than 450 and 550), but now replaced by Crosair VX550.
And this TWO PHASE Start is a PAIN ! I have feel my hard drives pain. :-(

I don't know what causing this.

(I know about that gigabyte mobo "problem", when set something in ram or cpu tweak, than motherboard switch off the computer and restart again, but this is still to fast switch back on the computer, because 7200rpm HARD DRIVES CAN'T STOP THEIR MOVING, and for electrics fast turn off on is a russian roulette).

I don't know a reason for me to go for f8c, I have no use my computer in AHCI yet. (I don't know that there is any other news in this new BIOS version)

What we can do now ?

                            Best Regards,

Yeah I never really thought about it that way. I'm not sure if its even powered up long enough for my HDD to spin up but I will have a listen next time I turn it on. Its not ideal doing the "Two Phase" turn on but at this stage the only solution is to not disconnect it from the power outlet in the wall.

Re: A Couple of questions about the GA-X48-DS5

                                Hi,

Do you know about THIS behaviour on newer x58 GB mobos ?

I going to buy an X58 extreme, but if this problem exist, maybe I would go to asus p6t deluxe.
My studio audio card (price of the complete i7cpu/ram/mobo) card not start many times when booting on this doubled start.
In this case 3 poweron/off cycle for one start. Too tricky for me.

                                Regards,
